Amsoil or not... I've used Castrol GTX 10W-30 in all the cars I've owned and made sure of a 3K miles change interval. The result is 270k miles on a quite decently running engine, with standard maintenance (nothing outlandish), and changed rod bearings as preventive maintenance. Oil consumption is around 1 qt/2k miles, which I consider very good - especially for the way I drive the car. If Amsoil was the final answer to all oil questions, they (car companies) would REQUIRE it to be used.

Oh, and I forgot to add... a 5 1/2 qt jug of Castrol GTX costs $12.50 at Walmart, and it's $13 for the high mileage stuff. Gotta love WalMart.

My SHO reached 400,000 miles on the drive to work this morning. I have used only Castrol GTX 10W-30 and Castrol GTX High Mileage 10W-30 for engine lubrication and Motorcraft FL-400S filters for filtration. No opinions. Just fact proven by the records. Castrol makes a SUPERIOR product. For the small extra cost at WalMart for the High Mileage version, I think my dependable SHO has earned the extra buck I spend on the green jug every 3,000 miles.

The engine in my car has not been babied. There are very few engines that have 1) driven 400,000 miles, 2) hit redline almost every day, 3) seen track outings each year, towed a 3,000 pound boat, 4) show no visible smoke out the tailpipe and 5) still run like they want to reach for the redline every chance they get.

Thanks SHO. Thanks Castrol.

Funny, that you mentioned that and I had to find out the hard way just how dependable my ole SHO really is. I figured I'd buy a used newer model Civic as a second car/daily driver, in case the SHO breaks down and I have a car to drive around town to get replacement parts. The way it looks now, I'm using the SHO to get replacement parts for the Civic, and this is the 3rd (!) time the econobox crapped out on me in the 3k miles I've driven it. :banghd:
Not to mention the CEL is on and it calls for O2 sensors and a fuel pressure sensor  To get it thru emissions, I'll have to cough up $250 just for parts. Sure, the SHO ain't invincible, but it has NEVER given me as many troubles as that Civic at 3x the mileage and almost 5x it's age.
