I don't think I am a beer snob but I do love to sniff a good stout or porter. Those beers have lots of different scents that you want to take in. If you are drinking an unfiltered one you also want to swirl it around so you can drink all the chunky stuff.
I started trying craft beer about 6 - 7 years ago, before that I thought they were disgusting and overpriced, drank lots of Budweiser, Old Milwaukee, Moose Head and similar.
I brought some of my friends to the dark side, I always give them little bit to try, tell them to think about them not as beers but as a "liquor", I've found that opens their mind so they are not expecting the typical beer taste.
There are so many different kinds of beers and flavors out there so why not try as many as you can... maybe I am a beer snob, but my beer belly says otherwise.
I drank a **** ton of bud, red dog, and pbr in college. The official beer of phi delta theta was red dog...cuz its cheap. Then, when I got outta college, I tried Sam Adams Boston lager. Liked it. Take pride in your beer! Then, I tried Old Specaled Hen, and the rest has been history. Got WAY into IPAs (west coast ipa > east coast ipa, btw), favorites are (were?) Stone Ruination IPA, and Pliney the Elder. But about...oh, 6-7 years ago, I just got burnt out on them. Too many, all too similar. Every wanna be craft brewer just hops the shit out of their beer, and calls it craft. Nope. Not for me. They need to wake up and try a new trick.
