Hey all.

I really want to get a set of 17" SVT Thunderbird wheels for my car, but...

The only place I can find them is Tire Rack, and they want $180/wheel for them.

I've heard of someone getting them for quite a bit cheaper ($130, I think?), and would prefer to get them as cheap as I can.

Anyone got any ideas?

Also, what's the prevailing opinion on tires?

I'm looking at Sumitomo HTR-Z II's or Yokohama A520's. I work for Sumitomo Mitsubishi (part of the same conglomerate that owns the Sumitomo tire people), so, in some weird way, it'd be cool to have Sumitomo tires (yes, I'm a freak).

The cheapest I found them was $175 at ShittySho, I mean CincySho. Tirerack came down an additional $10 a rim when I also bought tires from them. There are similar knockoff rims from Tirerack around $120.

If your not too worried about the SVT stamp there are other makers of T-bird rims hunt around on the Mustang and T-bird sites. I best I saw was 800 and some change with Falkeen tires so you do have options.

If you found them for $130 then that is one smokin' buy!

I paid $179 a wheel for mine from Tire Rack, but the were purchased through NTB. The Yokohama tires are real nice and the Sumitomo's aren't bad from what I hear.

I tried to stay with a 50 series tire, but there aren't many options. I may go with a 235/45/zr17 next time in the same Michelin XGT-Z4.

You're gonna throw in a new set of tires, too, Laurence? Aww, that's so nice of you!

I was looking at 225/55/17 to put on SVT rims. They only throw off your speedo by .3 mph

guys I went to Town Fair tire wednesday and asked the saleperson for some prices on the SVT. They called tire rack, and the CSR there told him the T-bird is no longer being carried by them. Please tell me it was just a mis-informed CSR. I want those wheels!

I'm now thinking of going with the 17" Jag S-Type wheels. I have to measure the offset, but if it's correct I'll probably go with it.

Completely incorrect.

The manager of the local Kelly Tire store called a sales manager at Tire Rack, and they've still got the wheels, lots of them. About $180/wheel, give or take a few bucks.

If someone could do a search, my computer is horridly slow. Either here or on ShoTimes. I can't remember which we had a wholesaler from TireRack that was a SHO owner and would cut you a deal on on rims.

Which tire size would be best with these svts on my plus? 225-50's or 235-45's? Im about to order some for mine but i dont want bicycle tires on mine. I want it to fill the wells but not rub either.

I'd go 235/45/17 myself... and man it felt like the old days when I read this post, as I knew half of the posters personally and every username by memory. Not the case anymore. :nut:

Sweet, i see thats the size youve got on yours. Did you have to trim you rear fenders any?

Well, I can't remember but I don't think so. I used gen 2 rear quarters on the mutation so it definitely was fine until I bought the 1" spacers. :nut: Pre-gen 2 quarters I did run the 235's though and didn't have any rubbing thinking back. Thing is though, tires vary even when the same size and also the wheels obviously can make or break the deal. Good luck. :thumb:
