For those of you with lowered SHOs, do you get noise from the front suspension when turning the wheel left or right, especially at a dead standstill?

I figured I would get noise as everything settles, but this isn't going away, and its super consistent.

Anyone else?

I have H&R's, nothing that I have noticed, just a little NVH from the trans mounts is all.

Yea clunk noise left to right from steering center. New arm bar things and new steering gear and its the same. Ford can't find anything wrong. Also hear it from a hard bump on the front wheels.

Is it a single pop noise that sounds springy? That could be an upper bearing mount with a bad bearing.

A good point I could send you is to buy a stethoscope so you can touch things and listen to them.

You could remove one the sway bar links to see if the noise changes with the wheels back on, on the ground. Mechanics wire as temporary sway bars will let you test drive the car.

Another test: Lift the car, use a hydraulic jack under the front control arm and lift the suspension to load it vs unload to see if the noise changes.

Another test, reinstall everything and remove one tie rod at a time to see if the noise changes. If you remove the outer tie rod nut, give the knuckle one good rap with a hammer and the shaft sould come out without having to hit the stud.

Its cheeper to try a new inner/outer tie rod then a new rack.

That should give you some direction as to the source of the noise.

I think it has something to do with how the spring has seated. This didn't exist until after I installed the h and r lowering springs.

Thats posible, if you reused parts you should be able to see where the old spring sat and where the new one is. On the other side, ther are some suspension components that now work in a different range then they did stock.

Yeah.

This will be a "wait and see".

I had a creaking noise when turning the wheel that sounded like a suspension issue about 6 months after i got the springs. Mostly at dead stop/moving slowly especially if the car had been sitting. Ford didn't find anything wrong, but did basically **** everything possible from inside the column to all through the steering rack. Issue is gone. I do wonder if it will become a semi regular thing ill have to do.

Turn plates are fairly common on the Taurus, usually you can feel it if you put your hand on top of the suspect strut tower and have someone turn the wheel. If you have a pop every time the wheel turns past center I'd check the steering column intermediate shaft for a slip stick condition. Sometimes you can fix it by just pulling off the intermediate shaft and greasing it.

Edit-the intermediate shaft issue would have nothing to do with having it lowered, just something that happens on occasion.

I had a similar issue. It was a short while, a few months, after the lowering. It was checked out by two shops. They said NPF but did say the springs could easily be turned when it was up on the lift. It was only on the right front side. And then, as quick as it came, it was gone. As if things were just settling. And it was only at very slow speeds. Like pulling out of the garage. Once in a blue moon, if the stereo is off, I can here a very faint version of it still. But it’s mostly gone. And I still wouldn’t change back because of the benefits of the H&R’s.

Edit: I had the H&R’s installed @ 5171 miles.

I haven’t heard anything like this from the H&R spring installation that I had installed at a shop back in 2016. But since I have removed the rear springs myself and cut them, reinstalled. Replaced the front struts myself over the winter and had to swap over the H&R springs....so I have now reinstalled the kit. I did feel a slight thump turning my wheel hard from a stop and starting to drive...but found I forgot to tighten a subframe bolt....all is well now but now it’s getting realigned.....damn mechanic!! Oh wait that’s me:bonk:

In my case it was lower control arms bushings. Especially left one, exits on highway is a right turns so all g-force goes to left, replaced it twice in 30k miles
