Is it a single pop noise that sounds springy? That could be an upper bearing mount with a bad bearing.
A good point I could send you is to buy a stethoscope so you can touch things and listen to them.
You could remove one the sway bar links to see if the noise changes with the wheels back on, on the ground. Mechanics wire as temporary sway bars will let you test drive the car.
Another test: Lift the car, use a hydraulic jack under the front control arm and lift the suspension to load it vs unload to see if the noise changes.
Another test, reinstall everything and remove one tie rod at a time to see if the noise changes. If you remove the outer tie rod nut, give the knuckle one good rap with a hammer and the shaft sould come out without having to hit the stud.
Its cheeper to try a new inner/outer tie rod then a new rack.
That should give you some direction as to the source of the noise.
