I was wondering how crucial the supports were.

I'm replace the valve cover gasket on my daughter's '92 and was wondering if those could be left off as the ones between the engine and firewall were a pain to get off and I was thinking of leaving them off to avoid a major headache.

They are not needed. The important part is to have a good ground path on the rear passenger side. This is where the ground strap attaches from the engine to the body.

P.S. I don't run them either. They get in the way of my sanity.

cool, i didn't think they were and I'll tighten up the right hand bolt.

I just bought this for her and the valve covers were one of the known issues that had to be addressed for it to be dependable for her. going to replace the plugs and wires while the intake is off as it's easier to get to them.

Good deal. Remember that if you are using a Chilton's manual, the firing order is wrong!!!

This is correct:

-----Firewall-----

5 1
6 2
4 3

---radiator-----

the diagram is not turned correctly if the firewall and radiator are in those spots. the engine is transversely mounted so would 456 be facing the radiator?

I know, I'm late, but I'm with all the others, ditch those stupid support things.

Actually, I left the front ones on in my wife's car because they're powdercoated and it seemed a shame not to have them on, but yeah, they're dumb.

And also, yes, the actual engine goes

1 2 3
6 5 4

but the coil pack goes

5 1
6 2
4 3.

The Chilton's, FWIW, also tells you to replace your supercharger oil every, what, 30,000 miles? Yeah, whatever.

I have a haynes manual, but info on the SHO is sketchy at best, so I'm doing like I usually do, I'm winging it.

:laugh_ti::rofl::nut:

stupid question, but is everything that you unplugged plugged back in? also...did you put the throttle body gasket on the correct way? will it stay running with application of the throttle?

I checked and double checked the connections, the gasket for the throttle body was damaged and currently has silicone sealing it, and will get replaced tomorrow on my day off, and it will run the the application of throttle.

You did remember the big vacuum hose on the back of the intake AND the big grounding strap that goes to the bolt next to it, right?

Did you reconnect the IAC? The MAF?
