Peel your carpet back underneath the brake pedal, and look for a big 2.5" rubber plug. If there is no hole / plug see if you can get your hands on a subframe recall kit.

In the meantime, you will probably need to drill a 2 1/2" hole in the floor, (if the subframe recall has not been done already) That will give you access to the spinning nut. There is a detailed picture with measurements where to cut, let me know if you need it and I can try and post it for you.

the nut is supposed to be held in with 2 tabs, but if the tabs bust off the nut will just spin as you mentioned.

Lots of helpful pictures on there too

The subframe recall doesn't apply to Gen 3's.

If it is the front nuts there is a large opening that you can get to on the inside of the "frame".

Well looking at my '96 RM yesterday with no engine I could look right at them from above. :)

You should be able to get to them from underneath with the air deflector/splash shield off.
