I need to know if anyone out there who has had the sfc's installed on their cars had to remove the carpet before welding them on. The person I am thinking of using to weld mine on suggest that I remove the carpet because he thinks that the heat generated by welding might pose a fire hazzard. Any thoughts.

it shouldn't create that much heat at all. i have had a welder next to my gas tank with no problems, so i don't think the carpet should be a problem. the underside of the carpet has thick insulation behind it, between that and the floor, it should be fine. if it catches fire, then the guy probably doesn't know how to weld that good cause it should be getting that hot on the other side of the floor.

there is a mat in between the floor and the carpet. It is made for noise damping and for insulation, so I doubt anything will burn. I've never heard of a car burning down because of subframe connectors being welded on.

Ditto. The metal is pretty thin so if the carpet is catching on fire then the guy doing the welding is probably ruining your subframe. If he is that worried just tell him to dump a cup of water on the carpet.
