North Carolina? No thanks! I visited once in August. Every time you step outside it's like taking a bath in soda pop. My boyfriend is an engineer. He's just very practical. Besides, he knows the rules, I'll get my way. And he'll help me with it too! :)


ETA: I think I shorted the alternator out, cleaning the battery terminals. That may be the location of the short. Gonna test that next while we work the voltage meter. I'm still mechanically challenged, but I've learned a lot with this current issue.

If you can get in there - check the connections on the starter I.E. which wires are connected to what. There should be one small wire on a terminal by itself, two large wires on a single terminal on the front of the starter (these are positive), and one large wire connected to a stud that also functions to hold the starter in (this is the negative wire)

My dad got frustrated, and decided to have it towed and worked on at the dealership. He wouldn't let me touch it, he wouldn't let me help, and decided he was done with it. I'm pretty ****** off, but oh well. I swear, sometimes my family lives in the 19th century.

I think I misspoke. I meant more in the way of women in my family are assumed to have no mechanical or electrical ability, and aren't allowed to touch anything of that nature.

No mater what, after the car is fixed, you can show them that the car is a great car because with basic maintenance the car will last a long time. Yamaha made a great engine that will last. At times when people have to junk the cars, the motor is the only thing that was still in good shape. Good luck.

I had a similar problem on my '95 ATX. Battery cable was heating up at the positive terminal, car wouldn't start, and accessories acted funky.
All my connections were clean and snug.
I discovered a voltage drop between my positive battery terminal and the positive lug on my starter.
The battery cable that ran between the two was corroded internally, causing high resistance and a voltage drop.

Replaced the battery cables and was good to go.

Good luck on the repairs.

I'll be heading home next week. I live outside Sacramento. The Ford mechanic couldn't get my car in reverse at all. Gotta pop it into second before it'll go most times. He said I need a new clutch, which I knew. Probably need a whole new transmission really. Gonna find one one of these days and have the boyfriend put it in. Yes, the same one who wants me to sell it. Wondering how much a rebuilt will cost me without any of the labor. You gotta drop the transmission to put in the clutch anyway. And my shifter needs replaced too. Busted that this summer with the stiff tranny. It spins, and won't tighten. Delia really needs a lot of love.

There really isn't any rebuilding of the transmission, as there aren't any parts out there. Clutch might help, and you did a fluid change already? You do need another shifter.

You generally need to put the car into second or fifth before reverse anyways, or it'll grind or just not engage.

I know, it definitely needs a clutch, and a fluid change. I can't do it while I'm here though. I'm not allowed to touch my car. My dad will throw a fit. The clutch is too expensive for me right now. The fluid change is going to happen as soon as I can. I don't have any way to raise it up at home. We have jack stands here, but again, I'm not allowed to touch my own damn car.

Well, if you are going to drive and enjoy a SHO, you will have to make arrangements to be able to work on it yourself.

Buy some jack stands for home, and do it there.

And, don't drive it much until you replace the clutch or you will have tranny problems; forcing it into gears will compromise the synchro system.
