Stop leak additive

My 89 uses about a can of oil every 500 miles. Does anyone know if using this stop leak stuff is bad, I want to give it a try but I just want to see if anyone has had some bad experience from using it. I'm not too sure if it will even work but for $4 I think I may give it a try.

My opinion on "stop leak" products is: if it will stop an oil leak at a seal or gasket, it will probably seal other oil passages like in the bearings and return passages. Not good!

I have had a good experience with the STP Oil Stop leak. It will not clog anything up- it just treats all of the rubber gaskets and seals so that they expand and seal again. These rubber gaskets dry up and harden quick especially in warmer climate. I had a tiny oil leak in my SHO and after driving a few hundred miles after the additive, I have not had a problem. Also, the STP heightens the viscosity of the oil, which is something we can all use.

I had a leaky oil pressure switch, and I tried several stop-leak brands with no luck. Replacing the switch worked, though. You'd probably be better off finding the source of the leak and fixing that. Using stop-leak is like putting a band-aid on a broken leg.
