I would venture to say that a completely stock SHO motor with a good tune running 92-93 octane, 9-10 psi of boost reliably with a few changes in the fuel system. My 3.0L SHO with a stock bottom end has seen 21 psi, it regularly sees 17-18 psi. However, the fuel system has NO stock parts other than the tank and a modified fuel rail. Has about 22K miles on its current configuration.

Stock pistons are for the lose!! 25psi here I come!!!

But yeah, what has been stated, limit yourself to 10-12psi if you are leaving stock pistons. Sure, they will take more, but the trans won't, so better safe than sorry!

I mean, come on, no SHO needs more than 430whp anyway.

Mine sees 33psi all day long with no problems, 100% stock.

Oh wait, I thought we were talking about tires...

ford says?

it is stated in one of the early ad's or promotional material pieces. the same paragraph also referes to the "single crystal pistons" the taurus sho uses

sounds like hypereutectic pistons, but i may be wrong

that dont suprise me at all..

If the user couldn't use the TwEECer to view if the MAF was maxing out, that's solely a user error. You can payload MAF voltage instead of flow (which is an incorrect calculation if the curve is incorrect) and clearly see when it starts approaching 5v. With a close tune, a maxed out MAF should hold rich.

Most tuning problems are the fault of the people using them. My Subaru is much more complex and I'm not having any issues. The TwEECer isn't perfect, but it's on par with the Ford computer you're working with.

At the time, the D4U1 strategy was sorely lacking in some data logging features. It's MUCH better now.

well what kinda gas? are you running 91 or eth? if eth if seen engines push some stupid pound numbers...and stupid high compression numbers as well. a safe zone for stock with out toasting everything is around 6 psi on pump gas. my friend is actually running 30 psi in his lancer....yes boost..... damn import........but that's with a water and eth combination for an every day driver this is not get like 3 miles to a gal....he is running the stock 8.8:1 pistons still with out much problems

Huh?

You can run about 10 PSI on a stock motor and be perfectly safe (provided you have supporting mods). With a more experienced owner/tuner, you can do 15 PSI, however, you better know what you're doing. This is with pump gas... The most I've run on boost, aside from road course outings, is 91 octane.

30 PSI on an Evo isn't anything unheard of. Comparing small engines [built for boost] making similar power isn't a fair comparison.

Hey Tom, Shannon From Sierra Vista here. Still don't have a sho yet, but I did just buy an '87 Mitsubishi Starion Turbo rwd wide body. Here's where you come in; I wanna know if you have the parts to do a Sho transplant into it. I have a mustang 5speed to hook up to it and the rearend is IRS so it should be fun. Any thoughts?
