As of late, I can barely turn up the bass without it distorting. Is the sub crapping out on me? It worked good 6 months ago. I had the trunk open today to try and hear where it was coming from. That's one strange looking sub box.

Thanks

it has happened to me as well. i thought it was the sub, but further diagnosis found out that the connector behind the headunit that runs to the jbl stuff in the trunk needed to be disconnected cleaned with electrical contact cleaner or blown out with an air hose. works great now.

The original JBL subs were good when made, but they have a cheap surround that likes to blow out with age. I have had 3 (!) subs blow out on me like this. This is your likely culprit. The box is held onto the package tray with 4 13mm bolts/nuts. You can go at it from below with a loooooooong extension, or from above by removing the rear tray that covers the speakers and whatnot. You will have to remove the rear seat to do this. If you find it is the subwoofer, you can modify the box to fit an 8" sub in there. Just search the forum, there are hundreds of threads on this. Good luck! :thumb:
