Hi there! I know this question has been asked a thousand times...only I'm asking it backwards. I wan't to restore my SHO to stock.

Or as close as I can. I know the stock Y pipe is very restrictive, and very unavailable. What are my options and what is closest to stock?
How 'bout the resonator and mufflers? Below the manifolds I've got nothing original left.

What year sho? What do you have for exhaust? I have all original on my 95 and wouldn’t mind a upgrade. If you would like to do a swap or something? If you are interested.

She's a '94. Not sure what kinda y-pipe, might be a magnaflow. No resonator, single muffler, downturned tip, made by CherryBomb

You want new or used? What part of PA? You could alwaysw contact dan Barbush and see if he has any parts cars used stuff sitting around. He's near pittsburgh. Might be worth a road trip.

Does your y pipe have cats? Might want to just replace the catback with used oem--a resonator and 2 mufflers will tame the noise.

Yes, I got cats. So does my pipe. Is buying a 30 year old exhaust really a good idea?
I bought a Magnaflow pipe from SHOsource, expecting it too look like the one in the photo. It wasn't but It looks like the exact same pipe that's already on my car. Since there is nothing wrong with mine, I might just keep it unless someone knows a better alternative.

Also, THERE IS ANOTHER SHO IN PITTSBURGH??? How's come I've never seen this guy? We've gotta be the only two around!

Dan has been in the SHO game for a really long time, before my time and I've been around for a good while. He's retired prof from Duquesne maybe Pitt?? I forget. For SHO power he has been using a taurus wagon with a v-8 SHO motor swapped in.

I don't know about a definition of better alternative but... you could get an old oem or have a new y cut and spliced at the rear and use the original design 2 muffler 2 tailpipe option. You can find splitters and have pipe bent and welded at any muffler shop that feels like doing it.

Also is the cherry bomb muffler glasspack style or a more conventional shape? If it is a glasspack you can cut and splice that where a resonator would be and add a regular style muffler at the back. Exhausts are pretty easy to cut and splice in tubing. I used to have that done to patch holes in exhaust pipe when I used to live in PA.

Good points. It's not a straight glass pack, it looks like a regular muffler. Getting the rear Y pipe made is no problem, it's just pipe. Figured i could get the SHOsouce bolt-on resonator and go from there. The real trouble is finding mufflers. Kinda weird that everyone makes muffs that are loudish but nothing to replace stock. And heck! I don't even have a straight tip rn, just a boring downturn.

There are stock style replacements. I can't vouch for how they handle salt as they are all aluminumized steel vs stainless. alum is better than regular mild steel though. Check out rock auto for teh most common stuff available. I saw the same stuff on Summit.

Not too worried about salt anymore, I've retired her from being a daily. But it looks like none of these mufflers have the tip.

As for the cats, yinz ever hear of Davico? I found part 19047 but it looks pretty similar to the Magnaflow

I wouldn't get rid of a magnaflow and go back to stock Y. that seems silly. That davico looks interesting. and the price point is great. Do they actually have it in stock?!

Davico is a newer brand that is doing alot of the older stuff catco and walker used to offer. Never used any of their parts and never heard of anyone's feedback on them. Are you looking at cats or a ypipe with cats? I would not monkey with the y pipe you have (unless it has a problem) and work on after the cats if you want sound reduction.

Why would you want to use the super restrictive stock crap over a good flowing one? Seems like a silly thing. Even if you wanted to make it all stock. It's just detrimental for the car's overall performance.
