He has the bastard child Explorer, and it is clear we are WAY cooler to hang out with!

Bastard children UNITE!
Lol, there's some good folks over on the explorer forums, but it seems like ever since the 2020 ST came out, the 5th gen is gettin forgotten about. There isn't much traffic on the boards, not like there is here...

I could go over to the EcoBoost Performance forums but I've already vested my time with you guys...then I gotta make all new friends and we all know how that goes LOL, I gotta enter the circle of trust all over again, lol. Plus, I really dislike repeating myself. There's other stuff I'm doin that has no relevance to the SHO, so I try not to bore you folks with that stuff...

Most of us are over there as well. That forum is pretty slow, but has a alot of technical info when you go digging.

Ironic......

As there is at least one person in the world who believes I was on LMS' payroll! Ha!

For the record, I never was.

Doubly ironic..... those two vendors could now be considered synonymous with eachother.

I don’t think you can really compare SSI and LMS.... LMS may be dirt but SSI/Shawn is way worse yet.

Put them in the same boat and let them drift away....far.....far.....away.

That’s the record from Chance Kezar... [email protected] SSI tuned.

Yup...I've never been able to find the guy on the forums or IG and have never spoken to him. I don't do the FB thing, so if he's there, that's probably why I haven't run across him. Anyway, just curious what his mods are, that was a while back too, so not sure if he's still "in the game" so to speak. I was with LMS back in the day, but dropped them back around v6, now Brad at AJP has been my tuner and as many of you guys know, he's great to work with.

I just realized how far this thread has gotten off track...I fear I may have been the one to hi-jack it and get that tangent started, LOL. Not a good impression for a new guy here, huh? LOL...

On the contrary, just means you fit right in.

Chance's mods were listed as intake, exhaust and 'fuel supplemental', which could be e30, meth or No2. My money knowing ssi would be on meth.

IIRC it is nitrous. When I was on FB I told him I would jump off a cliff if my fully modded Explorer with nitrous only went 12.50's. Pretty sure he blocked me after that.

Lol. When I got those trans mounts, Anthony mentioned to me that Chance had em on his explorer as well, that's why he was able to get decent 60' times.

Put it like this, Iast time I ran, I did a 12.9, but since then, I've added:

- ATP turbos
- XDI-60 HPFP
- AD trans mounts

And within the next month, I'll be done with the:

- Direct injection methanol
- XDI injectors
- Full custom exhaust system
- DW300c fuel pump
- ....and making the switch to E85

And, of course, farther down the line:

- Stage 2 engine build
- Higher flowing heads

I agree, weight reduction is key. However so is actual vehicle selection. There are tune only Mustangs going into the 11's full weight easily. Put a blower on them, and they go into the 10's, for less then a new priced SHO. Sometimes significantly less. They are just set up better. They have a better trans with the 10 speed. When can even debate which motor is better. The EB 3.5 or Coyote/Voodoo. However, a mustang gets lost in the crowd, when they park next to my SHO.

99% of SHO owners are not willing to strip anything out of our cars. We like the comfort and quiet. Personally I am always willing to make more power, then ever remotely thinking of removing weight out of my SHO.

There are the fringe owners like Jordan, Andrew, and yourself. You all have your place. Jordan and Andrew are pushing the platform more and more. However, there will be a point that with the current aftermarket, they will not be able to go any faster without continued reliability issues . I think that will be in the mid 10 second range. At the end of the day, you can buy something faster, more reliable, and lighter for a less then a new priced SHO.

We love our SHO's because they are unique, nice, and straight catch people off guard at a street light. However compared to other vehicles, we will hit a wall at a certain point.

Well said.

All cars hit a wall at a certain point. It just depends on your goals. Is it to go as fast as you can? Then ditch the SHO, buy a fox body, swap in an LS3, and turbo charge it, tub it, and gut it. You can do this for well under 30 grand if you're willing to get dirty. Is it to go fast, but remain street legal? Then buy an LS3 GTO, and super charge it. Again, this can be done for 20k, give or take mileage/other issues. Is it to go fast around a race track? Buy a 5th gen corvette, replace the wheels and tires for a 315 rear/275 front set of slicks, and replace the suspension. Voila, you've got a neck snapper. Finish off with a roll bar.

At the end of the day, you've got to have a vision of what you want, otherwise, you're gonna spend a lot of money, and not really get anywhere. No car is "everything". The essence of a SHO, imo, is a grand tourer. A car that lets you eat up the miles in comfort and style, arriving where you want to go, 150 miles away, NOT feeling like you just drove 150 miles...but also able to smoke the standard grocery getters, easily overtaking cars in the passing lane on the interstate. A car that will smoke cheaper "sports" cars, all the while providing a comfortable but crisp driving experience. That's my vision. Ford didn't quite hit the mark, hence, this forum, us, the modifiers.

I did the same with the 76 corvette. I had a vision for that car, that of a proper sports car. That is, street legal, but able to be competently raced on a track when desire arises. Its what I think Duntov would have wanted. Sacrifices had to be made, as they will for the SHO. In the vette, slammed, rock hard suspension for better handling meant being concerned over speed bumps and certain RR tracks, and feeling it if I so much as run over a cigarette butt...
