I know I'm 'that' guy that keeps beating this dead horse. But, if you want to run lower ETs then consider dropping weight in our 4500lb sedan. That's how Jordan got to where he is (fastest SHO currently). It's not all about HP. Plus, weight reduction means less stress on things like the trans, RDU, PTU, half shafts.. etc

I agree, weight reduction is key. However so is actual vehicle selection. There are tune only Mustangs going into the 11's full weight easily. Put a blower on them, and they go into the 10's, for less then a new priced SHO. Sometimes significantly less. They are just set up better. They have a better trans with the 10 speed. When can even debate which motor is better. The EB 3.5 or Coyote/Voodoo. However, a mustang gets lost in the crowd, when they park next to my SHO.

99% of SHO owners are not willing to strip anything out of our cars. We like the comfort and quiet. Personally I am always willing to make more power, then ever remotely thinking of removing weight out of my SHO.

There are the fringe owners like Jordan, Andrew, and yourself. You all have your place. Jordan and Andrew are pushing the platform more and more. However, there will be a point that with the current aftermarket, they will not be able to go any faster without continued reliability issues . I think that will be in the mid 10 second range. At the end of the day, you can buy something faster, more reliable, and lighter for a less then a new priced SHO.

We love our SHO's because they are unique, nice, and straight catch people off guard at a street light. However compared to other vehicles, we will hit a wall at a certain point.

One could even go so far as to argue the f150 3.5 is light-years better. Lol

Say what? A different platform with the correct engine and trans combo....turned the correct way? Come on meow.....

So true. Both paragraphs above.

As far as WR goes, will I do SOME WR when my beast gets back up and running? Yes! To the extent that Jordan has? **** F'n NO! Hahahaha

I just couldn't ever stomach performing the amount of, or going to the extent he has, in the WR category.

But that said, he deserves kudos for undertaking it and subsequently capturing the top dog title of the EcoBoost SHO world. For now. Muahahaha .

And yes, the platform overall has always been unique. Niche. Mysterious and rarely known to most outside of the owner's and some enthusiasts being aware of them.

Which, despite its' respective challenges, is what drew me in, and keeps me in!

...then consider dropping weight in our 4500lb sedan.

And in my case, try closer to 5000lbs, LOL. Ive done quite a bit to lose weight for my application:

Lost about 110lbs with 3rd row delete:
y4m27w5XLIfyNAU9hUUlElfMBRPCBjP9M9m5OO-gLokgoG4JswqVq1SxZgflZt2L-8oSo_lI5wLBuc24hQ5rMEduu8dHdRjq_D5T3x_7cjjBKsyb2x4jhbSwdHYMnl_1kVKOWJb7ABtrFKpZcOVQEhozvZbxNhupHClCAj6WcsCeXrm-LVvTjeyVbxETRkTqj0rXgTJqA4F5Aa_ZxX6uxpU0Q

Almost 30lbs with Lithium Battery:

About 48lbs on wheel/tire combo (12lbs per corner). This made a HUGE difference on how the car felt to drive. That rotating mass makes a big difference. I know it only looks like a small amount, but the rim itself only weighs 19lbs....it's the damn tire itself that was the weight adder here.

Along with a few small things here and there (I'm sure I also added some with some of the aftermarket parts) brought me to a new whopping, featherweight...

4541lbs!!!! haha...damn this thing is heavy, LOL. I didn't have the scales when I first got the truck...wish I did though, would've been more accurate.

...However, a mustang gets lost in the crowd, when they park next to my SHO.

And my platform is even more rarely modified. You know how many minds I blow simply having an Explorer with TE37s on it, lol...

There's only so much weight you can take out before you pretty much eliminate modern conveniences. You could remove your back seat and passenger seat, and swap the driver seat for a racing bucket seat. You could replace the sunroof with a carbon panel, and strip the dash and entertainment system (assuming the car doesn't need that to handle functions). You could remove all the carpet and a lot of the interior panels. You could move to the outside at that point and fab a carbon/fiberglass set of fenders, a hood and trunk, and front and rear bumpers. And of course you're gonna be running a set of lighter wheels, too.

But at this point, I feel like you might as well get a stripped Evo or something. I guess if you had a Police Issue SHO you could feel a bit better about drastic weight reduction without destroying the interior of your car.

I would love to reduce weight, and eventually I want to experiment with fabbing fenders, trunk and hood, and bumpers. But I don't think I'd touch the interior of my car much ... I bought it because of the luxury element. And probably most of us did so.

So in the end, for most of us, it really will come back around to more ponies.

I was actually just thinking about the basics, factory cold air intake, great intercooler, better turbos, better fueling, variable intake and exhaust cams.....

LOL, thanks...I'm nowhere near where BPD is with his SHO, but not far behind. When I put the money down for the engine build, is when I first started really posting here after seeing he is pretty much doing exactly what I am for my platform (hmmm, or is it the other way around? Technically, he's first, so...LOL). I try posting on the explorer boards, but they are so dead...ugh...there's really not many of us and I might even dare to say I may be THE only explorer going the lengths I am going to...IDK.

Also ... that is a badass explorer.
Thank you...you're right about the lengths to go to reduce weight, but I am pretty mcuh done with anything major now...I pretty much trimmed all the fat I could without going crazy and losing that nice, open, plush SUV experience, lol...

I would def go the carbon fiber route if there was anybody doing that with some off-the-shelf parts, but I don't have it within me to go have some one off parts made...haha
