I just joined this thing today, and not sure where to post this. But i bought an SHO in august of 02. The only audio stuff it had was front speakers, radio, and stock amp mounted in the trunk. I measured the SHO radio to be 7 inches wide, 7 inches deep, and 2 inches high. The alpine CD player i wanted was 7 inches wide, 6 inches deep, and 2 inches high. The salesman told me i needed a mounting kit. Also he said to get the 220watt speakers i wanted for the rear i would need to BYPASS the stock amp, because they would interact with each other and one would blow. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

For the head unit you do not need a mounting kit.
First all SHOs have front and rear speakers, so unless the previous owner took them out you should have them. DO you have a JBL system? If you dont then you shouldnt have an amp. If this is so then its justa plug and lay deal and you do not have to bypass theamp. If you do have a JBL system you may want to bypass the amp because the head unit may be better. Hopefully some one else can help if you have a JBL set up.

Yes the recent owner took out everything included in this car. He took out the 2 rear 5x7's, and left nothing but the stock amp and front door speakers. It has been brought to my attention that i might need a mounting kit because the headunit will not clip in properly. It looks like there was some wires spliced in the trunk cause there is a lot of electrical tape around wires with a lot of wires hanging around. Thanks for the input

I replaced my JBL system's head unit with a Clarion MP3 payer. I had a wiring harness, and my installer and I decided to not bypass the stock amp. It sounds great, very loud very quick wink High volumes = distortion though, but since I never have it that loud anyways i am happy.
