Starter would not shut off when key turned off so replaced the starter and also went ahead and replaced solenoid even though old one ok. Problem occured again and this time the battery cables got hot and smoke from starter. Tried jumping to get it started and jumper cables got hot and arcing and smoke when I touched negative to ground on engine. Tried jumping again after had car towed home-got some starter and alarm action when touched negative cable to ground and arcing and smoking again. Tried the old Solenoid and same thing. I suspect both Solenoids are bad? Battery tested and is toast. I suspect starter is toast. Cables look Ok. I also replaced the ignition switch as I suspected this might have been the cause from the very begining.
Would like to put a new Solenoid and Battery in to see what happens. I put a Wells Solenoid in and am considering a different brand? Need some advice on what to do from here. Thanks.

A) welcome to the forum.
B) WOAH!!! Please make sence of you writing... it is very hard to read... grammer and syntax.

C) Does anything on the car work electrically? Is it only the starter/battery? DO you have working radio/lights/anything?

D) It's a shot, but is it something in the Ignition Tumbler... something grounded out possibly? in the starter position only? You disconnected the battery i'm guessing when you "turned the car off" to replace the starter. Did anything happen when you hooked the battery back up? Did you notice the wires getting hot again the second time you tried? It seems that when you went to jump the car it started to arc Is the battery completely dead at this point?... this seems to indicate that it is possible that there is a +12V grounding out, and when you complete the circuit with the jump, the +12v is grounded out with the jump/jumperpack.

ok...i'm thinking as i'm typing so here's a summery of my jumble...

the starter kept going, and smoked wires got hot... so i'll assume that it eventually stopped when the battery died. (not because you unhooked it) Seeing that the battery is dead now.
You replace the starter and solenoid and try to jump the car... but you get all sorts of electrical **** when you complete the jump by the ground, and the wires are hot again. You then get another solenoidand the same thing happens. you say the battery is toast...Seeing that nothing will short out when it is not being jumped is becuase the battery is dead.

my verdict.... a main +12V wire is shorting out somewhere on the car... my guess close to the starter where you can't see it.

What to do - check the + battery wire and look at the whole thing... especially when it gets close to anything metal... also look at the +12v wire that goes to/from the solenoid and to the starter...

wow sorry about this long thing but I was thinking as i was typing GL!!! thumb
