Hey Folks,
So..I'm thinking its a good idea to clean and etc the connectors for the sensors and things all over the engine and compartment. What's best? Just take em apart, clean and lightly die electric grease?? Or has anyone ever wiped the contacts with a really fine emery, a couple swipes, before putting them all back together, just to clean the contacts..Does it make sense to do that??

WHY do you think it is a good idea? That is a lot of work, so you must have a really good reason.

Hi, I thought that that way I could take care of any corroded connectors and rule out any connectivity issues. This spring I'll have a lot of time to puts around with it and I thought it may make sense just to know how each one doing and clean and insure contact are good. Or do you think its better just to wait and see if things come up. Also...can you tell me..I'm looking at a parts car to buy for 1111.oo. It says the timing belt is broken. Assuming it broke while running, an I correct that the Yamaha motor would not destroy itself like some engines do when the timing belt breaks while it is running. It also has a MTX. Mine is auto and I thought it might be fun to have two...one ATX and one MTX. I don't know yet if it is a 3.0 or a 3.2 like mine, but it is a green 93 like mine..
Thoughts,
Terry

You are correct in that these engines are non-interference. If the timing belt is all that's wrong with it 1111.00 is not a bad deal depending how clean the car is otherwise!

I would not disconnect and reconnect all the connectors. I think you have more risk of creating a problem than of preventing something that may not exist.

Thank you for your replies, It's good to hear the thoughts of the experienced here, Yesterday I was looking over the top of the engine and found that all the screws that hold tight the hoses connecting the port tubes on the top were loose,..like a full turn and maybe a half on all of them. I didn't over tighten them but I can imagine that all together all of them being loose could have an impact on overall running...Think that's true?

the answer is "it depends" - if the coupler hoses were/are all vulcanized onto the manifold, then they were not leaking so it was not a big deal, however if one or more of those hoses was loose, then you had a very large vacuum leak.

when you put a rubber hose on a metal part (like a radiator hose, heater hose, intake hose, etc.) and then you repeatedly heat the metal part up, the rubber part will 'glue' itself to the metal over time via a process genericly known as vulcanization.

First of all, if you aren't having any problems, leave all of the connectors alone. Like Fred (rubydist) says, it may create more problems if you don't currently have an issure.

Second, a non running SHO for 1111 is not a very good deal. Any non running car that is that old, unless it is in immaculate shape and has all kinds of documentation is worth less than $500. If it has a manual, then it would have come with a 3.0. The block is swappable, but everything attached to it (accessories, front head, intake, harnesses) are different.

So...if the block is swappable, like that word...then I should be able to (carefully) drop in my entire , heads manifolds the whole dang engine ...3.2 and bolt up to the MTX??, It's really just the piston bore that's different right? I probably sound like a dummy sorry

lots of threads here about putting 3.2 into a mtx car, and the various issues and options of how to do it. it is nearly a bolt in swap.
