So I'm pretty sure my starter is going out on me. How hard is this to replace? Where is the best place to get one? Does it really matter? AutoZone wants to charge me $150. Does this seam like about the right price?

the starter is very easy to replace I did my own and im no mechanic. all you have to do is jack up the car remove the two bolts retaining the starter and the rest is pretty easy. If your starter has the solenoid incorperated in it then its probably better to get both of them new. I got a remanufactured starter and solenoid from Auto Z and havent had no problems so far you can acually remove the one on there and have AZ test it for you. As for the price that sounds about right do you have a repair manuel for your car it will make it a whole lot easier

The gen2 starter has the solenoid attached already. If you purchase a new or reman gen2 starter, the attached solenoid will come with it and should be new as well.

Are there more then just the two bolts on the back of this? Also how do you unplug the sensor? I am in the process of this and I can't get the damn thing off. I have removed the two bolts on the back side of it and it doesn't bidge, also I can't see the connectore so I am filling it blind and can't unplug it. What am I missing here? HELP ME PLEASE.

are you taking off the two 8MM bolts on the starter??? if so you are pulling the wrong bolts off....

the starter bolts to the trans mission... there are 2 15mm (i think) bolts that hold it in place...

another good idea is to dissconect the battery....

once you get the starter down, you can take off the cables... IIRC, its a 12mm for the supply(from battery) and a 10mm for the signal (from ignition)..

hope that helps...

I AM talking about the 15mm bolts. Are they the only two? Do I just need to pry it off or what?

oh ok... thats a relief.... :thumb:

yes there is also a stud that holds the starter in... that may be holding you back...

just give it a slight tap with a hammer.. preferably a rubber malet... or just put a cloth around the hammer... it should break free....

are you sure you got both bolts out?

just hit it on the rear of the starter, the end with the electrical stuff on it... but hit it up... not too hard but enough...

I took off two blots. I looked at the new one and it looks like it's the correct two. BUT on further inspection there are some wires connected to the Solinoid part. DO I need to remove those first?

no, the starter should come loose... then once you get it down, you can take the wires off... you can give it a shot, but i dont think that will help much, other than removing them now, instead of later....

are you going to replace the starter? if so, just give it some nice hard taps... dont wail on it, but put some force behind it... it shouldnt hurt the starter any... as long as the case dosent break...

theres 3 bolts i thought... im not positive. but when i took mine off there was 2 easy bolts at first. then i think towards the front of the car going the opposite direction the other 2 bolts were is one more bolt kinda hidden up there. like i said though, im not sure, thats just what i remember. but i know once i got the bolts out mine just popped right out so im pretty sure you still have 1 bolt in it.

there is only 2 bolts for the starter.... one on top, and one on the bottom
there is however, a dowel pin. its the one towards the front of the car, in the middle...
