okay...i got my intake and upper timing belt cover off...my t belt looks brand new! but, i have major water leakage problems on that crossover pipe underneath the intake...does that have a gasket? it almost looks like the back of the waterpump...but its hard to tell...its spraying out from an area that looks like its supposed to have some kind of o-ring type gasket...also, if i didnt rip any of my gaskets on my intake is it okay to re-use them?

The O-ring that seals the water pump outlet to the crossover tube is very close to a 1-1/2 x 1-1/4 x 1/8 size. I picked these up at a hardware store (or Home Depot) for about 50 cents. You must remove the water pump to replace it.

The metal shim intake-to-head gaskets are reusable unless the black finish has chipped off. The rubber valve cover seals are also reusable unless you found oil in the spark plug wells. The cheapest way to buy the plug well seals is in the Fel-Pro VS50378R set that includes the two valve cover seals and the six spark plug well seals from AutoZone.com (not in the stores) for 1991 SHO for $71.99.

sunny San Juan Bautista,
I walked into local Autozone and ordered the Fel-Pro VS50378R set, also $72. It took two days to arrive. The intake set MS 94831 costs about $45
if you do decide to replace it.

One thing about the metal intake gasket. Joe Scott at SP motorsports told me that the metal gasket will allow a small vacuum leak if it's not reinstalled exactly as originally placed because the slight ridge on the gasket is compressed. I don't know if this is true but it's one thing I might check on my truck's intake manifold. I just replaced the head and had to seperate the intake manifold a second time, thus reusing its metal gasket. I have a mysterious pinging problem under light load (small hills, light acceleration). Switched to colder plugs, ******** the timing a bit and tried premium gas and still it pings so a vacuum leak is a possibility.

This doesn't really prove the metal intake gasket
could leak a tiny bit if reused, but there are opinions both ways. I'm not sure myself. Maybe Joe Scott was just trying to sell me a gasket set.

Hey if any of you have any ideas about my truck,
I'd appreciate it. The sooner I can get my wife
driving it to work, the sooner I get my SHO back!

I reused my intake gasket and if I recall, some of the black paint had come off. Car runs great, but I do hear some sort of leak. I am going to do the 60k soon, so I thought why not just clean the intake out and reuse the gaskets for now.
