I haven't noted any of the trans problems as stated by the OP, or by others afterwards.

Should I be counting my blessings at that? IDK

Been run'n the LMS Stage 4 tune for a few months now, if not longer.

But then again, I don't drive it like I stole it. Well at least not all of the time. Occassional "spirited" driving is had, but I don't beat on her by any means.

Also been strictly religious on the 93 Octane....

Interesting reading on the fuel mixture(s) / combo octane booster and what not to do etc....

Perhaps Rick (or anyone else with knowledge on that issue alone) would be inclined to create a separate thread on that topic (so as not to jack the OP's thread here to much).

I never knew about the entire "don't add octane boost" to the fuel of newer engines was an issue.

Standing by..... :munch:
So on stage 4 your 1-2 shift is perfectly smooth? I'm going to see if I can get a video of this later today so you guys can see what I am talking about.

Yup. Both under "normal" driving conditions, as well as under hard acceleration and "spirited" driving.

Like I previously stated, should I be counting my blessings  ??

--- From what others have said about the shifting characterists changing with a Livernois program, it almost sounds like yours isn't programmed to be different/firmer/ or is it possible that there's still torque management on yours bpd1151?

Sure sounds to me like one of you has torque management and one doesn't.

Just a thought.......

The shifts are much firmer than the sloppy nonsense that FMC programmed into the ECM from the factory.

Crisper, more responsive, etc...... much improved in other words.

But I've never experienced the "slamming" or loud "clunking" etc. (no matter what shift point, i.e. 1/2, 2/3) that others have describe within this thread.

As far as your hypothesis of having, or not having torque mgmt protocols, omitted or not, I would doubt that I'm special enough to have had any other tune file created specifically for me and me alone by LMS.

I would defer that to Rick and Dan for clarification. :munch:

No of course not but mistakes do happen -- We've all seen those and I don't mean with these Livernois programs, but by the same token one must admit that nothing is perfect -- :)

sooo not likely but possible -- Another "hypothesis"? I guess.

But now that I've read that your shifting is much different (read better) than from the factory and not harsh by any means -- that explains that maybe the owners who have sharper shifting (for lack of a better term) and "clunks and slamming" may be the ones who might have the problems.....

Who knows why-- but it sounds like there might be problems. Is that a fair statement?

LOL, now that I've learned more I've adjusted my hypotheses....

I might have more if anyone wants to listen. I can tell you I listen very intently to what's said here and very much appreciate what is said.
Keep it up.:hail:

Well thank you for the compliments on the listening part.

I think, finally, after 17 years worth of being a paid listener ( LEO ) that some aspects have finally sunk in.

Your statement is both fair, and as my 10 year old says "punctilious".

Does this count as keeping it up?? :naughty: :nut:  :laugh_ti:

LOL, I just saw this, Mike -- At my age you look for any way to "keep it up"...

........who yu callin' a punc -- I's no punc I's a donk.:)

Have a good w/end. I loves the spring. and I gets my SHO next week:woo-hoo:

I wondered why I recognized you without meeting you in person.>

LEO here too.:)

I consider myself a good listener too, but alas, I've yet to be paid for it.

Rick,
I have been running the stage 3 for a couple days now and I love it! I can't believe the difference.

Been out of town for a few days... so neglected to post on this till now.

I have experienced very hard shifting, but only when I have seriously power braked from a stop, OR.... at the strip. In normal or very spirited driving, with NO power braking starts, I have never experienced it. I have both Livernois tunes, (currently running stage 4 as my daily tune) and Unleashed Tuning tunes (Torrie McPhail). For the last 17K miles I have been using either of their most radical tunes as my regular tune, with NO issues, at least so far. Remember, Brick weighs at least 400 lbs more than SHO. However, I am also running smaller max performance tires, which save 60lbs of unsprung weight, and give me an effective axle ratio of 3.40. So I am more likely to spin my tires in hard shifts, which may be keeping the tranny from clunking...

I decided to flash down to stage 2 today. The transmission feels much more sold (no more 1-2 violent shift). Stage 2 is where I am going to stay until the other tune is fixed.

Stage 2 is where I'm at with my car. It really suits my driving style and needs. I am continously impressed when the tune when I put my foot into the throttle. The car shifts smoothly and solidly and there is plenty of power. Still it is nice to know that both stage 3 and 4 are sleeping in my tuner in case I decide that I "need" them!

I had been running the Stage 2 tune ever since I got the tuner from Rick at Livernois however when the weather broke and the streets started to dry up, I decided to install the Stage 3 tune a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't really sure what the loss of torque management would do to the driving experience however after lighting it up at a stop light on a (near abandoned) road, it was quite a different experience than the Stage 2. I spun the wheels a bit and the launch seemed far more "violent" and let's be honest, far more thrilling! I also noticed a change in the steering feel.... It seemed to be tighter and more responsive. I noted this before when I went from stock to Stage 2. Does this make sense? Would the tune affect the steering? I've noticed it twice now....
All in all, I'm loving this Stage 3 tune and now I'm wondering what Stage 4 would be like? Damn horsepower is an addictive thing.....

I don't think the steering should be affected by the tune since the cars have electric power steering. So you really think that removing the torque management makes that much of a difference...hmmm, now you've got me thinking maybe I should go to stage 3...

Sounds like when you tromp the gas you unload the front wheels and sense a lighter feel.
I'm wondering how much torque is transferred to the rear in such cases. If it's a lot then the steering would be lightened even more under heavy acceleration, and have less tendency to torque steer if at all.

Did you notice any torque steer at all, Andrew, and how violent are the shifts on stage 3 compared to 2?
Might be only a subtle diff with wheel slip taking most of the hit.

Does the shifting feel sharper with more of a jolt when you accelerate say at half throttle (on Stage 3)?

Thanks for the feedback.

Colin.

Wheelhop is exactly that.
The tire bounces off the ground at a relatively high frequency. You don't hear the tires chirp and it won't trigger the traction control in all instances.
S.

So if I am experiencing wheel hop, would that be bad for the tranny?
