I've had stage 4 on my car for about 2 weeks now. I can easily tell its much harder on my trans than the stage 2 was. My question is how much worse is it for the transmission?

Only time will tell I think...the cars haven't been around long enough I don't think to really know the limitations of the transmission.

From left field...Keep an eye on your motor mounts. A harsh shift is probably worse for mounts than it is on the trans.

Stage 2 has torque management. Stage 3 and 4 have none.

I have been running tunes in my Brick, that have NO torque management, for over 12K and 10 months, at the strip, and in daily driving. Love the shifting. Does shift hard between 1 & 2 at WOT, and feel that at some point, tunes may have to bring back some torque management in that area, if one is radically tuning this engine.

or you do as i did with my engine you chain the block to the frame just enought so the engine and tranny mount still give you some rubber feel but you have no more loose on the mount itself will give you a longer living mount

Don't know. I'd hate to find out the hard way that it's too much for the tranny's life.

What I do know is that Rick's outfit runs Stage 2 on their SHO and to me that's a good indicator if one is concerned with longevity.

I haven't got my SHO yet -- it will arrive in the next week but what I've decided to do is run stage 2 -- with maybe a short stint eventually on stages 3 and maybe 4 as an experiment to see what they are like.

Being that I'm probably jeopardizing my powertrain warranty by running a tune, I really need to be somewhat careful and not hasten damage to attain some kind of long term service. -- without missing out on all the fun.

JMHO.:)

I have been running stage 3 all winter and don't think the shifting is that bad. Plan on loading stage 4 as soon as my car is back from the new Torrie radiator and 170 thermo are installed. 2 weeks! Next, torque convertor!

Understood, but what is the perceived difference between 2 and 3/4? I doubt I'll load 4, as I don't want to put race gas in the car.
S.

I just told you the difference. Stage 2 and 3 are the same minus the torque management. Stage 4 has more power and no torque management. Stage 4 does not need race gas.

Let me try this again, is there a difference in how hard the car shifts without torque management? I haven't loaded Stage 3 into mine, and am running 2. It shift a bit harder, but I would guess with no torque management it'll shift harder still.
And Livernois "recommends" race gas with Stage 4. I have Two other cars that run on race gas, one 100% of the time...I prefer not to put it in my Taurus, lol.

This doesn't seem like a very good idea.

Well, the TM cuts out the boost right before the shift to keep a smooth shift. Stage 2 cuts some of the TM out. Stage 3/4 cut all of it out. Stage 2 is only a bit smoother than 3/4 but stage 4 (never used 3) really goes rough on the 1-2 shift and I can feel it.

Ha definately not.

Also, theres a few people including myself running stage 4 without race gas. I think Darrel has run it for months with 93/94 with no problems.

Thanks...hmmm...I may only use the stage 3 or 4 tunes at the track.
