hi all,

just had the rotors turned. nick used the same pads because they still had 3/4 life. the rotors were just warped. teh brakes squeak even when coasting.

some of you know that my car (prior to the brakes and new rims/tires) vibrates after 60 mph. nick thought the squeak was a bad wheel bearing. well, he just put audi S4 suspension on my wife's 97 A4. he also put new pads and tunred the rotors on her car as well. guess what? same exact squeak. squeaks without the brakes applied, goes away when you apply the brakes. this is WAY too much of a coincidence. i simply can't belive that wheel bearings go bad immediatly after he turns the rotors, regardless of make and model.

what's going on? my guess is that the pad is not shimmed correctly on both cars and the back is not greased against the caliper. so, the pad is vibrating (hence the squeak) against the caliper. the rotors, teh wheel bearings, etc. has nothing to do with it.

thanks for the help,
Robby

I've found the torqueing of the wheels/rotors is critical. If not done well the rotor will warp. Check the slider pins are greased and are working like they should.

yeah he's right...i had the same problem when I did my brakes.....the caliper pins need to be greased up....with brake lubricant....99 cents at any autozone....and you should be good to go after that. :)
