Since it says specifically not for use on MacPherson struts I would not use it on them. Either it does not clear or some other feature about it makes it not safe to use on them.

the ones we used on my suspension last weekend, looked exactly like those, and worked fine. Just slow to do with hand tools.

I used a set of those on tired old stock SHO springs and they were starting to bend and made me nervous. I got beefier ones after doing one spring.

Our strut/spring assemblies are MacPhersons, so the one you linked to isn't the right one.

This is what you want: http://www.eastwood.com/kd-tools-3387-macphearson-strut-spring-compressor.html

It's the exact same tool that Autozone rents out. I used one when I overhauled my suspension in 2010. It worked, but it was a pain in the ass at times. Once the springs start to compress, the spring seats can get in the way of the tools so you can't get a socket on them. I also had trouble compressing the stock rear springs far enough to take the load off the mount. I managed to get it done, but I don't remember if there were any tricks involved.

I've replaced my front strut mounts again since then, but this time I used Kirk's bench-top compressor. It's a helluva lot easier to use. Looks sorta like this except it's mechanical, not hydraulic:

Mike, the first one you linked to is exactly like what I use, and it works. it is also available from harbor freight for way less than the eastwood price.

Autozone has spring comp for free with their lend a tool program. Its what I used when I did mine. If I did suspension alot I would probably invest in one, but for the occasional swap its hard to argue with "Free".
