Today while on the freeway I was doing between 60 and 70 mph (judging by surrounding traffic) and I looked at my speedo and it was showing 20 mph. When I exited the freeway after 10 minutes and was going approximately 40 mph the speedo showed zero. After I stopped the car and ran an errand and restarted the car to drive home the speedo worked fine. I'm bringing it into the dealer tomorrow morning. Has anybody else had this issue? My SHO has 10,800 miles and this is the first problem I have had with the car. I don't want to have to explain to an officer about my intermittent speedo problem as the reason I was speeding.

I remember mine doing something crazy like that while I was heading to a friends house. I was in a neighborhood area so I wasn't going all that fast but now I recall it happening. How the heck did I forget that?!? That was a couple months ago and it hasn't occured since. I'm at 7700 miles on mine. Still can't believe that slipped my mind. :brainfart:

It's that little Asian guy in the black box that's playing tricks on you!

I did have this issue on my 03' Denali XL... GM dash clusters had bad Swiffer motors...
which turn the various guage dials. Ultimately was replaced under recall...
Mine started on the Interstate, when I noticed I had slowed down, so I upped the cruise, and pretty soon I was passing everything in site, and only going 50 on Speedo!

Hope it is just a computer electronic glitch that can be re-programmed by your dealer.
Not fun not knowing how fast you are going. Guess you can always borrow a GPS which
shows speed.

I'm back from the dealer and of course they could not get it to do it on a test drive and the computer had stored no fault codes from the incident. They are going to talk to a Ford engineer about it when he makes his monthly stop at the dealer later this month. It does suck not being able to know what speed you are going. If it happens again and I happen to be pulled over for speeding I'm not turning the car off, so the officer can drive it and see the inaccuracy of the speedo and Ford can foot the bill.

I have a feeling he's not gonna take your car for a drive..

Also they don't like walking up to a car that's still running.

Mike Welsh on the V8SHO.com e-mail list reported a very similar issue with his Gen4 SHO:

Mike Welsh said:
one day the speedometer stopped working. it stuck on 20mph and didn't move. then suddenly it started working again thinking that the 20mph position was 0. so first I was driving around 40 and it said I was going 20. entered a 25 zone at the thing started working again. I was going 25-30 and the speedo read 45. I actually caught this on video. I haven't pulled it out of my phone yet though.

And then here's the video of it he posted:

I was not being serious. Whenever I get pulled over, I turn off the car and put both of my arms (crossed) out the window with my license in hand. They do appreciate it too, as I have had a couple very high speed runs in my 86 Mustang ticketed as only "exceeding the posted limit" vs. an actual clocked speed plus a reckless driving.:)

SHOnGo,

By chance do you have Navigation in your SHO?

I had a similar issue, no codes but the Ford Tech line said they have had reports and have a new update between the radio and the instrument cluster.

My issue has only happened twice , but they went and did the update today. I guess in the next few weeks we will know.

I wish Ford like MS would just push any and all updates to our cars when there in for normal service. Or better yet do a Over the Air update through sync. Now they only do updates if a problem is reported.

They cant do over the air updates because there is no cellular radio in the car to do so.

Way,

Use the owners cell. Similar to how they do the "check everything " now option through sync.

I'm sure they can devise a way to do it through there, or allow the owner to download the update to a zip drive and download the update that way. Probably our 2010's can't be retrofitted. But I'm sure within a few years that will be how it is done

You can already use a flash drive to update your nav.

Shongo,

I do have the Nav, and they said there was an update for communication between the radio and the instrument cluster. The Service Manager wasn't convinced that it was going to fix the issue. However Ford said try it, so he did.

My issue has only happened two times in the last few weeks. The issue was the MPH showed way higher than the car was actually traveling. Restarting the car fixed it both times
