Okay, I have a WEIRD problem. When it's REALLY cold in the morning, my speedometer reads my gears completely wrong. 1st gear reads like second gear, second reads like third, third reads like fourth, fourth reads like fifth, and fifth reads like....well....if I had a 6 speed, it would read like sixth! Is that not weird?? I was doing 35 mph in a school zone yesterday morning, and cars were passing me...they were doing 20mph!! LOL Is that not weird??? I'm confused as to how this could happen.

Perhaps this should have been posted in one of the repair and maintenance sections...?

Your speedometer reads high, then. Sounds like the internal spring is weak. As I've posted before it seems like these speedometers don't last too long. You could take it to a speedo shop or you could do like I did and find one on Ebay that has low miles and install it after adjusting the mileage.

half-way there, I think.
I have gone through 2 speedometers in my 95'. The original one started bouncing - the second began reading high after a month, I was on the Interstate one day, watched it climb from 75mph and finally peg against the bottom of the dash. My third (hopefully final) came out of a taurus cop car - this one is a certified calibration model - atleast it said so on the unit. There are shops that can repair them - as far as fixing it yourself - good luck.

Well, it only does it when it's REALLY cold outside...that's all. So for right now, it's okay. And it's about to get hot again for the year, so I'll be fine for a while. But...I should get it fixed by next winter.

I also don't want to be ******* 140 mph on the straight at Mineral Wells tomorrow, or going down the quartermile strip. hehehehe Later!

Don't worry about it. Mine has done the same thing as long as I've had it (and I live in SD, so it's always cold in the winter!! -3 last night lol) Once my car warms up, all is fine again...

Pssh, been there done that! Ever have the accelerater cable get stuck w/ the motor bouncing off of redline, shut the car off, and the Tach spin all the way around to the pin beneath 0RPMs?! :)

*NOTE: The fix for the tach is to hold the motor at higher RPMS for a bit and it'll automatically jump back in action*

Well, it's not an issue really. It was around 20 degrees today and it didn't do it. So I think I'll be just fine. I'm not gonna' worry about it. Thanks for the info, though...now I know I'm not the only one! :) Later!
