Hi,

My brother has a 95 Taurus and the speedometer jumps around like crazy every once in a while. I was going to replace the cluster for him and thought why not put one in from a SHO. The car doesn't have a tach now, is it possible to add one, or would it be too much trouble? Thanks for your help.

If you can find a tach signal coming from the computer it should be fine.

You will probably get a lot better help here: http://berlin.infodomadns.com/~tcca/forum/ They know the non-SHO Taurus much better than most here.

From what i have heard
no mods nor anything are needed.
Just plug it in and it should work.
The wiring is already in there and if you replace that cluster, the new one that has a tach will work fine.

...In fact you should also be able to get away with installing an electronic digital cluster from one of those luxury Tauruses with out any trouble. hehe. now that would be pretty cool.

The digital cluster is not a dropin install like a SHO cluster. It has different plugs for the cluster, different dash trim, and the buttons for the trip computer. Its not a hard retrofit though if you have all the pieces.

Thanks for the replies, I think I will go with the SHO cluster. Not having a tach is pretty boring.

A jumping speedometer needle is usually caused by a worn speedometer cable (except on electronic cluster setups) and will not be corrected by replacing the speedometer head. You might want to check the cable.
