in the 92 sho's what controls the speedo gauge is it electric or just the cable because mine does not work and i kinda wanna know how fast im going any help would help thanks

Its totally a cable system. 2 parts. An upper and lower. You can take them apart under the hood by removing the little clip and pulling it apart. Get someone to watch the speedo and twist the upper portion both ways to see if the needle moves. If not the issue is the upper cable or the Head. If does move you may have a lower speedo issue.

These speedos use clocksprings too, I think. A bad spring will cause the speedo to not move or to bounce (like mine :doh: ).

How hard is it to pull the gauge cluster? Thinking a custom AutoMeter setup would look mint in place of the Deceptacon-looking cluster anyway...

Mmm... like a VDO cluster for a Porsche. :cool:

To pull the cluster is not very hard but I do recomend disconnecting the speedo cable in the engine bay as it makes the job much easier. I also recomend taking apart the steering coloum shroud.

I looked very deeply into a custom autometer dash, and decided not to do it because of the negatives. To do it right you will have to fabricate your own lighting panel and do alot of re-wiring for all the indicator lights. If you want more info PM me and I can give you all the info I looked up.

The 2-part speedo cable turns a magnetic coupling in the rear of the speedo head to deflect the clockspring-loaded needle. The lower, vertical portion of the cable rarely fails. The flexible portion of the cable between the joint above the short vertical section on the transaxle and the rear of the speedo head is the most common point of failure.

A bouncing needle usually indicates a worn cable or cable that requires lubrication. No needle movement may mean the cable has broken or the clipped coupling at either end has come loose. A speedo needle that sticks at a certain position then jumps to the higher or lower indication is usually caused by a sticking needle mechanism. This can be corrected by using a light machine oil on the needle shaft's tiny bearings.

mine dint work ither if its the cable from the tranny to the firewall you need the cable u can get at Rockauto.com some one here pointed me in the right direction :salute:
