Speedo maintenance

I have a slight buzzing which seem to be coming out of the instrument panel.
Could it be my speedometer? If so, how do you lubricate the cable and what kind of lubricant should be used?

i had some sort of scratching noise coming from the cluster area that was proportional to the vehicle speed which led me to the speedo... i ended up replacing the top half of the cable (which eliminated the noise), but you can likely just disconnect it at the back of the cluster and dab some machine oil down the top end of the cable... it's worth a shot over buying a new one...
