Stupid me, I got nabbed for speeding while merging into a construction zone on I-69 yesterday. Trooper was right there looking for an idiot like me and caught me. Since it was in Michigan, this ticket will count. I can't find anything online at SOS, but are the points doubled as well as the fines since it was in a construction zone? I know they are here in Georgia (so there are big warning signs) but I don't recall seeing anything like that and curious if maybe it's just one of those laws you "just should know as a driver."

Anyone recommend a good traffic layer in the Lansing area? I'm probably going to shell out some bucks on this to avoid shelling out lots of bucks over the next 3 years. :banghd:

Yes they are doubled. Many construction sites have signs labeled as such, but not all of them. Like the law that requires you to move over a lane or slow to 25 or 35 mph if moving over is not possible for an emergency vehicle stopped on the side of a freeway, both were enacted into law in the last 10 years. The latter of the 2 was enacted in the last 2 years IIRC.

Here's a little tidbit for you to read.

The specific statute is described in §257.601b for the state of Michigan.

Appreciate it Beth. It says that the fines are doubled, but doesn't mention the points being doubled. One link just said "higher points" doesn't say double. I'll pay the one time stupid tax, I'm just worried if I'm looking 3/4 points or 6/8 points putting me into the "Driver Responsibility" bracket which means another tax every year in conjunction to increased insurance premiums.

In Oklahoma the trooper has to check a box that says construction zone for it to apply.

If he doesnt check it , it doesnt matter
