I've had this problem ever since I bought my GEN 3 last august. The night I had it, I took it onto a lonely highway to see how she could pull past triple digits; it didn't happen. It felt like a speed limiter kicked in at, get this 92mph . So I went to the dealer with it [the same dealer that has just somewhat completed the hydro-locker shocker swap] and they said they scanned the computer....and found nothing. Later that week in the wee hours of the morning, she topped 135 with no issues. A few days later, on the dyno, the car started a third gear pull without issue and stopped at 100 for two seconds. I kept my foot in it and after those two seconds, continued to pull; but it didn't matter, it screwed the run. Last night, after going past the 5oo mile break-in, I let it fly on the highway. "Wow! This motor sure is stronger than the old....WTF!!!? She stopped at 103 & wouldn't go any faster.

Has anyone else had an issue like this? I want to get SCT so bad so I can eliminate this from happening again, since I plan to track this car in 2006. And for those wondering, the car is shod with V-rated tires and inflation is an manufacturer's specs.

I'm not familiar with the Gen 3 SHO but does it have traction control? If so, this could be the problem.

A few years ago I put 4 new Michelin Pilot Sport tires on my 97 XJ6. Later that day I got a nail in one of the rear tires (yes, I was ****** about it) and so I put on the full size spare. It was a Pirelli 4000, I believe, of the same size and the car wouldn't go above 50 mph. This puzzled me until I turned off the traction control and the problem went away.

Interesting problem, but no that doesn't apply on the GenIII.

As far as your situation, I have come across this myself. Some days she'll scream past double digits into triples and some days it just won't go past a certain speed. So i'm about as confused as you are on this....

ya, sometimes mine will cut out at 103 or 104 :(

i had it happen while racing some kid in a scion, it was embarassing >:/ (usually the gen3 sho can get to 130 or 135 before most cars can hit 110)

edit: mine is also a 99.

Didn't Roman have a similar problem in his '99? I never did ask him if it was resolved.

I think it was a timing advance problem

I did have this happen to me before. Changed my fuel filter and ran some injector cleaner through it because I was pretty sure it was a fuel delivery problem. Scanned for codes, found nothing. Hasn't happened since. 135 is no sweat. :)

That's interesting cause when I look at my pull I did in "D" it did the first shift at 79mph, the next shift occured at 129 and I took my foot out at 169 before it made it to the next shift point. I know on the road that you are using a LOT of fuel at those speeds as if you are going up a 45 degree grade at highway speed pulling a trailer. If you are a little low on fuel pressure it certainly will slow you up, but not so sure it would hold it steady but it might.

I had the SHO in D, like I do when I want to test it. I was going have the dealer scan it again, but not for $75.

This has heppened to me several times but looking back I believe that it has to do with the transmission temperatureand if it gets too hot it wont let you go faster then about 100.
An example was in going to The SHO convention I was almost to St Lewis and got bored and decided to fly past some slow cars but I couldnt get it over about 100, about an hour later I pulled over because my overdrive light was flashing. I found out then that it ment that the Tranny was getting too hot. I cooled it off for about an hour and then proceded at a more modest pace to Indy. I re had my tranny system flushed and refilled and I then took it to the high way to see if I would break it. And well I slowed down after about 130.
I do not have any additional cooling on my car and I am wondering if any of you that have experienced this have extra cooling.
