I am having much debate over what spark plug wires to go with. I am getting ready to do my upper 60k. I have already settled on getting the Motorcraft OEM plugs for the SHO, there is no question there.

But here is where I am stuck. I read several posts and websites that say the Motorcraft WRE4081 wires for the 3.2 ATX, are the best for the car. Maybe I have not read deep enough into the "how-to-section".

Well when the cheapest you can find these Motorcraft plug wires is a $151.00 and money is already tight,

WHAT is the next best alternative for something that seats as well as the OEM plug wires???

From the research I have done, it sounds to me like, if the plug wires aren't fitting well, maybe it is the plugs that were used instead of the Motorcraft OEM's, and not the plug wires being used. CAN ANYONE SPEAK TO THIS???

I am going crazy trying to figure this out

I just did plugs, wires, and valve cover gaskets on my ATX DD and I just bought some cheapo's from autozone and had no problems yet. It was like $55.

The 3.0L SHO's WR-4033 Motorcraft wires will fit on the 3.2L if you ensure that the runs from the rear bank, cylinders 1 and 2 specifically, are straight and without slack. The difference netween the two fitments is that the coil pack on the 3.2L is slanted forward, away from the rear bank, and causes the span to be marginally larger for cylinders 1-3.

I am currently running the AC Delco wire set and have not experieinced any misfires for 112,500 miles. I would rather have used the Motorcrafts, but the prices had gone up. The Delcos are now a bit pricey too.

Once upon a time (before 200,000 miles), I tried several sets of the "lifetime warrantied" Borg-Warner wires. After an average of 10,000 miles before misfires became a problem on three sets of those wires, I went back to the Motorcrafts.

a while back, you could get AC delcos for $50. Now they are $100+

I think the same wires are being marketed as an off brand in the $50 pricepoint. I would not be surprised if they came off of the same assembly line as the Delcos and just stuck in a no name box.

FWIW, I have the Delcos from when they were $50 on one car and the "el cheapos" on another car. Both fit great and work just as well.

Napa premiums are Belden wire. Good shit. I'll check how much they are at work today if I remember.

Here is a counterpoint. Plug wires are replaced way too often for no good reason. Here's a checklist: 1) Any misfire detected? 2) Are the wires physically damaged? Note: Oil in the plug wells does not hurt Motorcraft wires, just clean 'em up. 3) Observe the wires carefully in pitch darkness with the motor running. See any corona or arcing to ground? 4) Check the resistance of each wire, should be less than 5K. 5) Are the wires still flexible or stiff and brittle feeling? 6) Any corrosion visible on the contacts at either end?

With the cost of these things, I say think before routinely replacing them. Replace on condition rather than on a schedule.

I replaced the original wires on my car at 180K, 15 years old. They really didn't need to be changed and could have gone longer.

I know RCM offers several wire options(name brand and off-brand) as well as several plug options. http://www.rcmautomotive.com

I've had the DELCO wires and fine-wire plugs for a couple years and they have preformed well for me. I also bought mine when the DELCO wires were cheaper.

You can go on shosource or even summitracing and get taylor 8.2mm wire that are 96 bucks. they fit just like stock, and I just got sum. I have the magnacore in there now and there good until it rains and the water gets in the plug well. they are sucksion cup wires but there not the best. get the wires that have stock boots on them also for plugs the best are denso iridium plugs for our cars. Kirk turned me on to them 4 yrs ago and I have never used anything else since.

the ac delco wires could be had for like $35 around 3 years ago, but wasn't that due to a pricing error?
