spark plug wire Q

I just put some off brand spark plug wires on my sho about a month ago and I got a bit of a light show under my hood. well the auto zone is taking them back and giving me some autolites. Are these reliable?

The importent thing to remember when buying wires for the V6 Yamaha, is where the boot seals to the cam cover. The wrong spark plugs will also have an effect on this. Some are too long, causing the boot to sit slightly above the cam cover.

I personelly haven't used the autolites, but others on here have.

FWIW: I only use factory motorcraft.

Meh, I just bought a set of Autolite plug wires for the SHO. They fit worlds better than the old parts store specials that were on there. They are built so much better too. I would have preferred to get th Motorcraft wires, but I am not paying close to 200 dollars for a set of plug wires.

Thanks for the input guys. auto zone traded me the $40 plug wires for the $75 autolites no extra charge, so I'll see how these work. on another note, dose anyone els have to take there intake manifold off to change wires? and last time I took the manifold off to change the valve cover gaskets the runner inlets were really gummed up. anyone know the best way to clean that crap out?

Yes, it is necessary to remove the intake in order to change the wires. Over time the intake can become all gummed up with oil from the PCV and the EGR...

The best way to clean it is to disassemble it, and use a couple gallons of B12 Berryman's and just scrub the crap out of it. Then get the fel-pro gasket set and put new gaskets on it. That is quite a job though. It made a world of difference on my SHO...

Question. . . . . for all those who said they're aftermarket wires fit snug, what plugs are you using? The intake doesn't need to come off, but your SHO will run ahelluva lot better with all the carbon deposits removed.

Autolite wires and plugs.

Motorcraft plugs and accel wire = perfect fit.
Motorcraft plugs and RCM cheap wires (55$) which I think it borg wagner = Fits perfect.
