It depends on wether or not you have new plug wires. If the wires are old you can leave them until you get enough money. If they are new you will ruin a good pair of wires. The plug well/valve cover kit is $70 on midwestsho. You car won't be harmed if you run it with oil in the plug well for a little while, but i'd replace them ASAP.

Paul (SHOZ123) wrote some directions on how to freshen rubber seals and gaskets. Do a search for that. I think his member number is 30.

Also, you can RTV both sides of the gasket. I've done this, and know many others who've done it too.

Good luck.

The RTV is temporary at best and not recommended for new seals. The cheapest source for the Fel-pro VS50378R valve cover and plug well seal set is AutoZone.com for $71.99 (look up for a '91 SHO).

i second this, used RTV on dad's 91 sho about a year a half ago and still no oil leaks. and they were all filled to the top with oil!

If you do the RTV trick for now because of the money thing then be sure to remove ALL RTV from the head and valve cover sealing surfaces when you finally DO get new spark plug tube seals. Like Scott said the new seals are a dry fit seal. You want a perfectly clean, dry, and oil free (wipe with acetone or denatured alcohol a minute before installing) surface with new seals.

That said for the temporary trick use a good quality O2 sensor safe (important!) silicone like Permatex Ultra Grey and clean the valve cover and cylinder head mounting surfaces like I said, doing a final wipe a minute or so (you want to allow the solvent to evaporate completely) before installation. Some people like lacquer thinner. It takes to long to dry IMHO, I prefer acetone (drys in seconds). I also have some denatured alcohol and that is very good as well.

Don't forget the RTV in the corners of the cam bulges on the left side of the cylinder head. Also one of the cam bulges has a textured surface. You want to spread a thin bead of RTV across the top of that cam bulge making sure to connect with the blob of RTV in the bulge corners.
