After having some issues in my 92[hesitation, misfire, loss of power, and such], I finally grew old of it. My original thought was the coil pack, and then I thought that the no name spark plugs wires [new] could be the cause.
So, last night, I pulled the wires out and installed the good ol’ trusted Motorcraft wires. Upon start up and idle, it sounded totally different and had a better response to throttle [let’s just say that didn’t last long!]. I then pulled out to go test drive the SHO…….what in the world, I now have a weed eater for a motor!
Next, we [BMcreider and his buddy] pull up into a gas station so I could see if anything has came loose or was not installed correctly. Upon inspection, everything seemed normal and was normal, firing order and all.
[skip this paragraph if you do not want to read the funny encounter I had with a “street” mechanic]
Uh oh, what now!!! This dude comes up on a bike, 3-5am in the morning/night and asked if my car took a dump. I was like “no” and explained. He then wanted to hear everything running and with throttle. He was like, “Yeah, it’s your “Cadillac” converters man. Get on the highway and floor it until they fly out, then you’ll be good for at least 1 hour.[hehe] If you can’t afford the new cats, just drill holes in them to let the back pressure out, it’s “highly” illegal though.[hehe]” I was like, “I have a fairly new high performance y-pipe with cats, so they’re not old [after I had already told him the car mileage].” This is what that idiot said, “[hehe] WTF are you doing with “Cadillac” converters on your y-pipe, you’re just asking for trouble.[hehe] That ain’t high performance, if you go to a shop they’re going to laugh their a** off for what you did. [hehe] High performance with converters![hehehe]”
After pumping some new gas, we headed back to Brett’s house. I was pretty ****** at this time, thinking I caught the bad Karma of “GreenBean” because I had to use the ‘beans coil cover after my clip snapped and Brett smashed the whole thing! And at this time, I was knowing it had to be the coil pack or DIS module, I had a slight back fire out of the exhaust and one in the intake, both only on one occasion. Brett was saying to swap the wires back out, because they came off my parts car, but I didn’t because they are known “good” wires.
Well shortly after, once I decided to get un-lazy, we pulled the coil pack off the GreenBean and installed it on the 92. When going to hook up the electrical connection, the coil packs/connecters were different. I simply hacked off an area of my connector, so it can slide on proper and adapt to the newer coil.
Viola!!!
My SHO runs like a champ!!!
As we are sitting in the drive way carrying on a conversation about how I thought the better wires were drawing more power in which the coil could not compensate and is why the problem appeared worse after the wire change…………..
[Part 2]
“Return of the Bicycle Boy”
Yep, that’s right, he stumbled across the house!
He now had a toboggan on his head and some gloves. As he was passing, I thought it was another dude with long black hair coming down and it never crossed my mind about this guy. I started to smile, as I was trying to hold back a laugh as thinking “oh no, it’s the guy!” and at the same time turning back to tell Brett that it’d be funny if it was that same guy. But before I could even say anything, the guy pulls a U-turn and I thought to myself “This guy is ****** because he thinks I’m laughing at him and his hair”. Shortly after, I then noticed the toboggan and the same face…oh no, here we go again!
BBoy: “[hehe] Did the highway trick work?”
Me: “No, I just swapped out the coil pack and everything is running great.”
BBoy: “[hehe] But still, you have converters on your y-pipe! [hehe] You need to cut them out if you want some performance and go with pipes. You’re not gaining any power with those converters, that’s just stupid. [hehe]”
Me: “Well actually, the performance y-pipe on these cars, with converters, put out more torque than one with out and the horsepower to be gained with out converters is not much.”
BBoy: “Yeah, but still you want straight pipes because it’ll give you more power up top, you’ll be at least 15-20mph faster. [rides off on his bicycle]”
Ahh, the pleasure of a good laugh when needed most!
Hope this is helpful for someone who has some issues like I had!

After that, the coil was changed.
