The following tests and conditions were observed but sometimes it will take a couple of tries to get it to start. Also, I'm the original owner so there are no unknowns as to maintenance history.

1. No codes or CEL........nothing but 1's
2. New fuel pump (155) & relay about 2k miles ago. Primes fine with pressure about 40psi.
3. Slightly depressing accelerator while starting has no effect on hard starting.
4. Have never observed any abnormal function of the tach (CPS never replaced but also has never had antifreeze leak on it).
5. Upper 60k not long ago, new plugs( AGSP32FM), new wires (Delco).
6. Ran fine after all the above installed but hard starting just began recently.
7. Was getting poor gas mileage but just replaced thermostat (Ford brand) which solved that problem.
8. Once started it runs great!

Hmmm, soemthing like this could be almost anything. What it is most likely is the Idle Air Bypass Valve. My car had that problem in the winter, only less so. Turned out to be the IAB

I would be suspicious of your CID or your CPS. Even if they arn't throwing codes, they can cause problems.

Also, if your ECT is original that can cause mixture problems which result in difficult starting.

CID replaced 3-4k miles ago. ECT sensor resistances were checked at various temps and they followed the specs very closely.

CPS.......wouldn't it be expected to either/or get codes and also experience some erratic tach readings?

Also, all seals & upper gaskets incl spark plug well gaskets replaced. No oil in wells or CID housing. Water pump replaced 3-4k miles ago and no coolant leaks.
