Either that, or they didn't want to do it. Either way.... You're better off going somewhere else.

Dealerships for the most part still cling to that lifetime fluid bs. No ford dealers around would touch it. Had to do it myself. Wasnt too hard.

Dealerships look up the change internal and it says lifetime. That's what they are looking at. Although we know better than that... I guess it would be lifetime assuming the ptu has exploded otherwise.

In my experience, dealerships have always been trash when it comes to these things.
You're far better off finding a shop you can trust.

They have a fill plug. Will have to suck out old fluid with pump.

Rear diff is pretty easy. Changed mine two days ago but it really was not that bad looking as far as the fluid.

Did you take the whole cover off or got it out with a pump

Take the cover off, and get all of the shavings and crap out of the bottom. Then refill with Redline Shockproof Lightweight Oil. If you do the PTU, use the same oil.

Taking the cover off is the best way but I pumped it out about 32 ounces then put some royal purple. Changed the PTU fluid at the same time so in about 15k I'll change both again but rear cover is coming off.

I guess I'm lucky. My local Ford dealership fully embraces fluid changes in all components. They did my PTU and will later do my trans and RDU. When they did my PTU, they also discovered a leaking CAC and repaired it. I'm impressed with them so far (Chilliwack Ford).
