Took it to a shop to get a leak looked at. Just as I figured, pump is bad, as well as the rack is about to go. Argh, the joys of owning a SHO :nut:

I'm good with tools so the pump won't be a problem (hopefully) and I'll pry just do the rack myself. Car needs a 4 wheel alignment and new tires, so I'll get the PS leak resolved and go get those too.

I was saving up for a rebuilt tranny... dang nabbit!

Any words of encouragement, or tips on either of the PS items?

I did a rack on a Gen 3 SLO, it wasnt too bad, popped off the tie rod ends, unhooked the column from the rack, loosened the front subframe bolts, supported the subframe on each side, and dropped the rear down after yanking the rear subframe bolts, and then unbolted the rack. Hardest part was getting the pesky PS lines broke loose and unthreaded/rethreaded.

I didnt have to remove the Y-pipe on the SLO, on a SHO you may need to.

Yeah its no good. I had smoke being pumped in the interior yesterday at idle, so i've had to change how I regulate my HVAC.

I might do the pump myself, and have a shop put in the rack. The rack alone is 400 or so through Napa, the pump is 160 with a 100 core.

The shop I had look at the car is one I would highly recommend and have worked on my car before. They wanted ~400 for R/R pump, ~790 Pump + Rack

There should be a link on the V8sho site to cheaper racks. Under $200 IIRC. The pump is pretty easy to change.

Alright I'll look again, sometimes I can't find things until I search two or three times over there.
