So what did you do to your SHO today!?

So, car is on stands, most of my stuff came in. I'm doing the springs and shocks first. Will post pics when I'm all done. Still waiting on the noisemaker delete, and the darn down pipes, but I'm done waiting. Car will be on stands all week. Gotta do the suspension, drop the old DPs, drill and tape the PTU, change rear gear oil again, install the UPR catch can, new plugs, new T stat. Then start working on the gear head tune. Been so busy with work, I haven't emailed gear head back with the current tuning strategy...they've been asking for almost 2 weeks now, lol.

Question...does the rear gear housing take any sort of limited slip additive?

I put Redline LightWeight Shockproof gear oil in both PTU and RDU...then it's easy don't need two different kinds

But you dont put the same viscosity in both so you still need two kinds?

Redline LWSP only comes in one viscosity. Yes. We put the same viscosity in the PTU and RDU.

That seems like bad news to me... the viscosities are WAY off, either its too thin for your ptu or its too thick for your diff, im guessing to thin so your saving yourself by changing it every 10k

Neither. Numerous SHO owners took the direct recommendation from Shodded including myself.

Read about it and you will understand why it works for both the PTU and RDU. I have over 8k miles on LWSP in my RDU and PTU. The bulk of those miles are at 90 mph on the freeway in 100+ degrees weather driving from Phoenix to the Cali.

The stuff works great. Significant difference how smooth the car is compared to how it was.

I do change the PTU every 10k miles. So after my trip to CA in September it will be changed. I will drill and tap the case as well.

I change the RDU every 30k miles.

I've seen test after test by multiple people in which Amsoil consistently outperforms Redline on multiple lines of oil. Now i havent been able to find a comparison between severe gear and shockproof, but it seems to be a pretty even 50/50 split to which is better based on peoples opinions. But, from my research due to the suspended particles in the shockproof it will help tighten up old worn out gears, and the Amsoil will provide better overall protection.

I'm all for using whatever is best based on actual tests and comparisons. But from what I've seen the people using the shockproof have only compared it to the old oem fluid they are replacing and most of yall haven't used it more than 20 or 30k miles so you really have no leg to stand on for reliability claims

I back amsoil because its been around forever, the vast majority of racing teams use it, and time and time again i see it beat all the other top brands in nearly every test.

Lol I dont have to do any butt stuff, but ********* Gandalf takes FOREVER hed like 94 and it takes him 30 minutes to hand write your receipt lol. Oh well, worth the wait. I pay 8 a qt for my 5w-30 and 17 a qt for my gear oils. Oh and the ATF is only 13 a quart, I do have to go to another city. But its on my way up to my dads place in the mountains so I just stop by. I will admit that much, amsoil can be hard to find or expensive

I laid my case. There are zero Redline PTU RDU cars have failed so far. They have also held up in OUR platform in the two fastest SHO's. Also I thrash the **** out of my car in extreme heat. Either on dyno pulls, street light grand prix run, drag strip, or fast prolonged deserts runs at 90+ mph in 100 to 115 degree weather. I would venture to say my SHO is right up there with the most "spirited" drive SHO's.

Also the gentlemen (SHOdded) that gave us the lead on Redline LWSP gave us good reason too. He didnt compared it to the burnt fluid. The main thing is you want is an ester based fluid for heat. It also gives amazing shock protection. He also gives Amsoil a high rating as well. Also Redline is shipped directly to my house from Amazon, same day.
