Looks like one of the clutch steels. Anyway with that much metal and a broken clutch steel? in the pan I would say you are in need of an overhaul!?!

Yeah I already changed the filter and fluid and it shifts a bit better than before. No issues in any gear... strange isn't it?

I assume you cleaned that magnet off really well? I would say that it is a good thing you put new fluid in - and if you are at 146k (like your sig says), I wouldn't be bankin on that tranny lasting untill 200k.

Oh of course i cleaned that magnet really well :) Yes, I'm at 146k original miles on that trans... I had the filter and fluid changed at 89k when I first got the car, I don't know if they cleaned the magnet or not (Ford dealer...).

I dropped my pan for the first time in its life at 142k. Found the exact same thing. I believe its a spider gear/diff shim that got ejected.

Scared the **** out of me...but 28k later and the trans still shifts great. So much for that myth about not changing fluid if its too old....

Course, no clue how the POs treated the car, but I've got two giant coolers and an ATX temp gauge in the pan to keep the fluid temp in check. Yes I like to really beat on my ATX.
