Not as good as previous years I've gone, but good free entertainment none the less.
Rally America doesn't do as good a job as SCCA did, and with Subaru offering a 500,000 bonus to the winning team for the season provided they're driving a Subaru, well that meant 90% of the cars running were all the same. Made for a kinda boring rally.
The officials I talked to said absolutely no spectating outside the spectator stages, but the Rally America web site makes no mention of this save for specific instructions for those at the spectator stages themselves. There were all kinds of people plotting routes to non-spectator stages though the Sno-drift officials said that was a no-no. I would've had a better time had we done that, the spectator stages were ok but too packed with people. Beyond that, media requirements must have been really laxed this year, because each spectator stage probably had 10-15 "media" people there, and they pretty much had free reign, including plopping their fat ***** right in front of about 50 spectators with cameras. Yeah, you're official media buddy, what with your disposable camera and all
Had I paid for admission I'd be upset. For a free event it's ok, though I'm not sure I'll go next year unless there's some more factory involvement.
