This will be the first official 2006 Tri-State SHO/SVT event... and it's free!

The SNO Drift Pro Rally is the kickoff event for the Rally America series. For those who have no idea what rally racing is it can be summed up like this: Real cars, real roads, real fast. Cars race against the clock on real roads called stages (closed to the public during the race obviously). Teams will typically have 15-20 stages to run during the event and the lowest overall time wins. Rally racing is the reason we have cars like Evo's and WRX's, and for auto enthusiasts going to a rally is part spectator, part atmosphere and all fun.

It's taking place Friday Jan. 26th and Saturday 27th in Atlanta, Michigan. Atlanta is about 3.5 hours north of Detriot, or 30 miles east of ******* in the northern section of Michigan's LOWER penninsula. As stated before, it's completely free to attend the event. Basically we show up on Friday, get a stage map and drive to the stage or stages listed for that day. You fraternize with other fans, watch the cars run and move on to the next stage. Here's a little taste of what it's like...

The main SVT/SHO Society crew did this event for a couple years, it was always a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to doing it again.

Exciting update!

After a few years of privateers and smaller teams, Subaru will be back in the mix for the 06 season with a full on factory Rally America team! Watching the cars run is fun, but the guys with full factory sponsors and deep pockets really push the cars MUCH harder. This will definitely be a rally worth watching :thumb:

Well I'd like to come, but after seeing where its gonna be. I'm sorry I don't think I'm gonna make this one. I've already got two trips planned for the next couple of months and don't think I can do a third. :(

The 4 x 4 is a '00. Nothing too special, it has the 3.0 Vulcan flex fuel backed by an auto. The wife drives it. Last fall I picked up an '05 XL for work. Its a very basic truck with a 2.3 5sp manual. Ac and a radio are its only claim to fame, but thats exactly what I need for work. I'll check out the forums, perhaps a front brake upgrade is possible.

It's ABSOLUTELY worth the drive :thumb: Just be sure to dress for the occasion. That means layered clothing, electric socks, boots and if it's really cold maybe even face masks.

You won't spend all day outside, as you drive to different stages and back into town to see the cars & crews working during service, but you are usually outside for 2-3 hours at a time. The last time I went the temps were in the low 20's. I was pretty chilled on the last stage as the sun was going down, but that was it. Never mind the guy I saw without a shirt... but he was a tad intoxicated so I doubt he felt a thing :laugh_ti:

Right now I believe big Steve (Xchang) and Greg Steffen are going but I need to confirm with them. I'll likely head north on Thursday and stay with my folks in Roscommon, possibly roll to Atlanta Thursday eve to get spectator info. Check into the motel Friday afternoon, hit the Friday evening stages then par-tae at Big Buck Brewery in ******* and hope we're not so drunk that someone throws up in the bathtub, not so hyper as to break the bed, and not so hungover as to enjoy the events on Saturday (and yes, all the above has happened in the past. )

I'll be in Rhode Island at the Providence auto show that weekend - otherwise I'd probably come to this.

****, i might be able to stay at my friends place. He owns some cottages right on lake otsego in *******. Big bucks a fun place, we eat there at least once whenever we're there. Too bad it'll be freezing, right next to big bucks is a fun little go-kart/mini putt-putt course.

I should be there this year. My buddie's dad is Chief of Scoring. I usually run MTC for some of the stages. Not sure if I'll have the SHO there or not.

Ok, I'm going... Greg Steffen from K-zoo is going with me. We won't make the Friday night stages but we'll be there all day Saturday.

Anyone else interested in going?
