I just took my 93 SHO ATX to a shop to find my oil leak. It was easier for them to put on a lift to look around. It turns out its the front crank seal leaking. The reason it was smokin was because the leaking oil dripped right on the exhaust. My question is has anybody ever replaced the front crank seal and was it very difficult. The shop told me around $650 parts and labor. A mechanic friend told me he would do it for $200 and I buy the parts. I have never done this before and didnt want to attempt by myself.:thankyou:

The crank seal is about a $10 part. It could also be the cam seals leaking, and those are not much more expensive for the whole set.

Labor is no more than several hours, even for a beginner.

But while you are in there, you might as well replace other things like the CPS, timing belt, water pump, etc.

It's not that bad of a job at all man. Don't let them get ya nervous with their prices and such. If you have a garage and a Saturday, the $200 you might give your friend, could get you a new water pump, front crank seal, cam seals, and a timing belt. Plus you'll realize that that SHO motor isn't that hard to tackle after all.
