slow startup?

Just had a question of what might be causing my car to take a while to startup. Basically it will not start unless i turn the key off and try again, it will just keep cranking. one the second time it usually starts fine like it would normally. There doesn't seem to be any connection with the car being cold or hot. I'm thinking something in the ignition could be just worn out.

sounds like maybe ur fuel pump might be bad. Turn the key to the on position and then off. Do that a few times and then start it up. If it seems to start everytime by doing that, then it's probably ur fuel pump. The pressure needs to build up in there in order for it to start. It sounds like it doens't have enough pressure at first. Good luck with it.

It is not so much that the pump isn't producing the needed pressure, it's that the pressure is bleeding off after the engine is shut down. This can be due either to the check valve in the fuel pump itself or the fuel return line check valve. Both are located on the fuel pump and level sender assembly in the tank.

hmm, i had a new fuel pump and its related parts replaced three or four months ago. Another description is that when you try to start it, the engine is not getting the signal from the key or ignition. There is a winding sound and nothing from the engine, on the second try it starts.

So would replacing the pump fix the problem or would you have to address the return line or check valve???

Actually, I'm not sure. I know the fuel return line check valve can allow the fuel to vaporize in the return line and bubble up through the fuel in the tank causing a low pitched rumble and a stubling idle. I have read that the fuel pump has a check valve to prevent the pressure from bleeding off through the pump when the pump is stopped. I wonder if the fuel pressure regulator can also allow the bleeding off of the pressure through the return line after engine is shut off. :confused:

i have the same problem, changed the starter, twice actualy and it didnt help, i am going to buy the high performance pump the fuel pressure regulator and the pressure valve thingie, but its kind of weird that whenever my fuel tank is full the car runs much better. and my car sometimes stalls on very high rpms not a pretty thing.
