Hey guys, ive got yet another little problem with my car that i plan to fix. When i start my car it will take a good 2 seconds for it to start. No matter if it is hot or cold. I also have a whine that sounds like it is coming from the back of the car (93 ATX). I was thinking that my fuel pump was going to crap out soon, but then i thought maybe a clogged fuel filter could be causing the slow start. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you so much guys!

When turning the key to start the car, leave it in the running position for a few seconds before proceeding to start, that should be enough time for the fuel system to "prime" and get up to full pressure. You can do that two or three times (off-run-off-run), then start the car. If it still doesn't start as expected and the starter is cranking at normal speed, then something else is likely going on besides fuel, such as idle air control being sticky and not giving enough air to start. It doesn't take as much fuel to start or idle as it does to go 0-60 in six seconds, so if the car runs normally otherwise, I would be looking beyond fuel supply.

And read zee codes of course.

The fuel filter has probably never been done, so it would be good to do, but it's not going to cause a slow start.

Can you get a video for us?

Check the valve on the fuel rail after priming as stated above. Do not turn the motor on. If gas doesn't come out or comes out with very little pressure, suspect the fuel pump.

I did the Prime thing, three times, and started the car. It still did it, hot and cold. And I would make and upload a video if i had the time. Ive got a really busy Thursday and Friday, so ill try to make one maybe this weekend. I also was going to borrow a fuel pressure gauge from my neighbor and try testing the fuel pressure on the rail, as one of you guys suggested, but i would have to wait till this weekend. So, everything im going to do, will wait till Saturday :D lol. Thanks guys for the tips, and i will be sure to report back!

It feels like it wants to start, but cant. It defiantly doesn't start up right away.
