Okay, I have recently changed the rear brake pads, rotors are turned and squeaks are gone, except a hooting sound coming from the drivers side. At first I thought it could be a wheel bearing but the sound has only come about since I changed the pads. I was just reading "Rear Wheel Hooting" at V8SHO found in the "Care and Feeding" section, and in that post, a person describes exactly what I am experiencing and is told it sounds like stuck slider pins. There is an exploded diagram of a brake caliper also, now here's the question.

How do you remove the slider pins, or do you have to remove them in order to lubricate them.

The slider pins come out when you take the caliper off. The two bolts that hold the caliper on screw into the pins.

I have found that an electrical anti-oxidant works much better than the silicon usually used to grease them.

Be sure too that the leading edge of the pad is ground down a bit so there is a bit of an angle to it. I just scrape the pad edge on the concrete a couple of times before installing.

:frown: Well, I think that I have finally found the cause of my frustrating noise. I had originally thought that the "hooting" sound was coming from the driver's side rear brake caliper so I lubricated the slider pins on that side, checked the passenger side and found that the bottom pin is stuck, and I mean STUCK! I should have noticed this when I changed the pads last week, but..... I didn't
The rotor spins free on the driver's side, but the rotor on the passenger side is fairly snug, didn't really notice that either last week  . Learn something new every day right?
Now, How should I get this slider pin free???? I tried some WD-40 but it won't budge. It looks like it has been stuck for a while so why would the noise happen now since I changed the pads and not been there all along???

If the pins are that rusted in probably the best thing to do is get a new bracket and slider pins.

Even if you get the pin out the inside of the bracket where the pin slides will be badly pitted and just be a feed bed for more rusted pins.

Went through this a couple years ago.

Does the bracket come with pins and boots, or do you have to order everything seperately? Is this a dealer part, or could it be found at most parts stores? Could you tell me exactly what parts I need?

The bracket does not come with pins. You have to get them seperate. The pins will come with new boots and bolts too.

The calipers are on ~$40 each too and warranted for a lifetime from Auto Zone.

AutoZone's website lists a caliper bracket for $19.99, so I called the local store here and they don't even have it listed. I will try another place.
So I need 1 caliper bracket, 2 slider pins and bolts, 2 rubber boots. Is that all?
Aren't there any springs that go inside the bracket?
Thanks for all the help, maybe now after I install this, the noise will finally be gone.

Does the SHO share the same rear caliper bracket as a SLO Taurus???? I have called AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts and they don't have a caliper bracket listed at all, I even saw pictures of the bracket on each of their websites and still they say they don't show it. The one from Advance Autoparts showed pins and boots on the bracket and it is $26.99 but the description didn't say anything about pins and boots being included. These parts people are stressing me big time. :cuss: I have only a couple of days off from work and would like very much to fix my brakes (again).
So maybe if the brackets are the same, (see question above), then the parts people won't be so confused by the three letters we all Love (S H O) and I can get thet bracket, pins and boots and be back on the road.

One bonus to this down time, we had a pretty major ice storm here over the weekend but no ice touched my SHO, it was tucked away warm and snug in the garage, in fact, it is rarely in the rain anymore thank goodness.
