So where'd all the Michigan people that lobbied to get the Convention here go? What gives people?

Yeah, the west MI guys can do lunches but not a national convention?

I couldn't even get more than one person to do a test run on the cruise.

I'm not without my troubles; I've had more than a few but WTF, it's $60, and they don't even need to pay for a hotel room.

It's ok... the convention will be a blast with or without 'em. But yeah, it's sad that there are so many enthusiasts in the immediate area and so few are going.

Mandy I still don't see why you aren't going. IT'S IN YOUR CITY. I will be going to hang out, but I don't even have a SHO anymore so I didn't register.

Chris,

I'm not sure where this came from, but that really sucks out loud. If I can't get time off work to do more than MAYBE drive down for a couple of hours for one night on a weekday after work to see some cars in the parking lot and chat it up and drive back home to GR and wouldn't be able to use any of the services or attractions, why would I register? Just to support? I think a lot of us have done a lot of supporting lately.

Mandy says that she ran the route, as did I. Two legs. Not to mention all of the planning that especially Mandy did gathering all kinds of information and phone numbers to make people's jobs easier with neigh a mention on the "thanks" thread.

I could care less if any of us get a public thanks for any effort that was put forth, I did get one in my PM and that was more than I (or any of us) needed anyway, because I (we) just wanted to help. We're not addicted to public appreciation, and on the other side though, I really find it unfair for people to assume that people's situations don't matter when they have no idea what the situations are.

And yeah, we make lunches. We make lunches on weekends. Maybe if the convention included something advertised besides Monday thru Thursday we could have done better for y'all. Unfortunately, my job is more important to me than my car, or it's club right now. Sorry we let everyone down, but hey- I'm sure it'll be a blast without us. Jeez- that was a really unfair blow. Have fun down there guys.

My thought's exactly... I HAD to take a week off at the 4th because all of my daycare kids took off giving me NO income.. so for me to take 2 week's in a month off does not work for me... THAT'S why I'm not going, Alex I've explained before.
And I'm getting divorced this month, I was more then happy to help finding info out for this convention and honored that Don did pick Michigan for the convention site this year and asked us for our insite on when, where and what to do, I'm houseing a few of the GLSS member's in my own home to help them save money also so I am commited to this club.. but I guess not enough for some ppl.

Hey I'm not calling anybody out here. I know things come up. If anyone would like to hear my list of issues just in the last month I'll gladly PM it out. I won't be there all week, but I'll be there three days. If others can swing it, great. If some people have outside circumstances, hey, it happens. My best wishes. Joe and Mandy, I totally understand where you both are coming from.

I will say this though. Last year we had close to 30 people at the Labor day BBQ. The west siders were pulling quite a few people for regular lunches and us east siders even managed a few impromptu lunches with 15 + people. Now here we are, the biggest event in SHOdom in our backyards and barely a fraction of those people--both EAST and WEST--are registered.

Things come up, that's fine. But we could easily have 30+ people within 2 hours of the 'zoo registered for this, and with months of advance notice finding 3 days and $60 shouldn't be a problem.

AFAIC, for ALL of us who did work hard for this convention (and you all know who you are... Joe and Mandy I know did work on this too but honestly I don't know who else contributed beyond them), this is a kick in the ass, plain and simple. It's one thing to talk the talk. At least now it's clear who the enthusiasts are.

For the rest, don't cry when the convention (if it continues) is 15+ hours away. And don't cry when nobody else steps up to do a bunch of legwork for a nice meet, because when you make a bunch of calls, drive hundreds of miles and devote hours out of your day only to have 1/10 the people who said they'd be there actually make it, well it's enough to say FU to the whole damn thing.

Mandy, I never got a PM from you on the cruise other than to say you were planning to run it on Saturday. The only person I got anything from on that was Joe, but I do thank you for giving it a test run :)

from what I hear it went up to $80 (85) after June first. The only thing I could or are really even interested in would be the dinner... So for me to register $80 plus $35 dinner x2 is alittle more then I can handle. I do think I'll make it to the Drive-in the Sunday before...

It's not only work but a baby-sitter for a full week so that I can go to events would not be easy to find. I know that the kids are welcome to go too but I cannot enjoy myself when my kids have to get up and *** every 5 seconds or need something. They can't sit thru a race.. it's boring.. I agree and was never interested in the track event's. I'll be more then happy to hang out with everyone after event's are over and do whatever part I'm needed to do because the reason I was going was for the conversation, not the event's.

I have repaired the #6 Ford Taurus SHO and it will be back racing this weekend.

Hey, I'm gonna be making it to the car SHOw Tuesday morning and I had to take a day off without pay too and cost some dough for the gas my pig crown vic sucks up. I won't have my SHO cause it still needs some more work before I bring it back to MI from Buffalo. I can try to donate some $$ when I'm there. Otherwise see you guys next week with my crown vic.

BTW, Chris, is there still gonna be the ride & drive event? If so, is it during the car SHOw? I can't wait to get some seat time in a new Taurus.

quite a jab, don't you think? It's bad enough you light people up because they ain't going, even though they're busting their ***** to get things right so everyone else can have fun, but to sit and slam people because we have jobs and what-have-you in the middle of the week that we must attend so we can keep a roof over our heads and fund our SHOs is simply another.

Yeah, I was one of the ones in the beginning who said they'd be there, beyond a shadow of a doubt. But obviously my circumstances have changed along with my location. I'm dying to be there, but as it sits, financially and otherwise, I simply won't be able to pull it off. Now, if you were to pay my rent this month and spot me gas money for the week...or better yet, just give me a week's pay, that'd be an altogether different story.

But give people some slack. Many of us don't make an assload of money. There's plenty of us living paycheck to paycheck, finding a helluva lot more month than money. So bear with us po' folk. I know mandy and joe have been busting their ***** for this, but just cuz they ain't goin don't mean they ain't enthusiasts. Same with me. Just cuz I can't afford to take time off from a new job to mosey on up there and hang out don't mean I ain't an enthusiast, either.

Don't get all pissy and junk just cuz all of michigan won't be there. It happens. Life goes on. Just go there and enjoy it for us instead of trying to make us all feel like shit for not going.

No, actually I held back.

I had a big sob story wrote up here but it doesn't matter. The people for whom this is important will do what is necessary to make it happen. With a week's worth of lodging being the biggest expense, I personally don't understand how a local person couldn't ration out a hundred bucks (cost of base convention fee & banquet) over the course of seven months. Nobody ever said you have to do every event or be there the whole time. Grab a Wednesday and Thursday, get your goodie bag, see SHOs at the track, get some food. 2 days off, back to work. That's pretty much what I'm doing, only I'll be off 3 days. I just don't see what the big deal is with that

I've been trying to motivate this area since 2000 and for every truly *nice* event it's always the same. Lotsa talk, little action once it becomes crunch time. After 7 years I guess I'm pretty bitter.

And no Tim, this isn't directed at you, or Mandy, or Joe or anybody in particular. This is a general bitch to the whole Great Lakes SHO community. If you love the car, this is the event of the year and there won't be another opportunity like it anytime soon. Whereas most people would need to pay $200+ just in hotels, the locals can do it for just the base fee. For this kind of SHO experience, you can't beat it.

I don't want any more hard feelings on this, so I'll just say hells yeah I'll be there, and I'll be enjoying for as many people as I can

To answer the other question, yes I'll be there with an 08 Taurus, and there will be plenty of rides, but I'm the only one authorized to do the drive part. Sign up early to sit shotgun in the most powerful factory Taurus ever :thumb:

I think Chris is trying to say that the Convention is not a cheap and easy thing for anyone. Everyone is making some sort of commitment and sacrifice to make it. Like real estate, location, location, location. Who's going to go to Seatle next year? I'm sure not.

PS. Chris, I have a Ford badge, can this Atlanta guy get some seat time?

I realize that not everyone can make it everyday. But for those of you that do go to something if not everything, look forward to seeing you there. So let's keep the peace and enjoy some Yamaha powered SHO fun! :thumb:

Please don't forget alot of the SHO owners now are kids 16-25 who don't have nor make much money. I just started a new job at a car dealership a few months back and can't go to the convention, and have some bills to pay off from being out of work for a while i am also paying off.

I love my SHO, **** i won't let it go for anything and i wish i could go I really do. Me and Corey both wanted to go with Eric, even for only a few days but he's moving by august and just bought and SRT8 charger and has a large payment to swing.

I am just now getting back on my feet from stupid cell phone bills, credit card bills, "etc." (you would be surprised how quickly those stack up) from when i quit my last job because of missing money out of my check. I'm also only 20 so a trip like that is extensive for me to consider and I know the condition my SHO is in that it wouldn't make it to MI. and I don't have the know how to fix it on the fly if say the timing belt snaps or something.

I'm just saying you can only play the cards your dealt and the way gas prices are putting the economy in this slump it just really makes things difficult.
