Should I risk bedding my new pads?

My Hawk HPS pads should be arriving today. I still have the stock 10" brake setup on my '89. I bought some new crap Ford rotors off ebay (F10Y-1125-B) for $12.49 ea. With shipping I would have been better off with autozone, oh well.

Since these are a carbon metallic pad, bedding the rotors would enhance performance if I can do it without warping the rotors. Since we all know how easy these rotors warp, should I bother trying to bed them with the new pads? On the one hand the HPS pads should heat very evenly without hotspots. On the other hand warped rotors suck.

Let me know yer opinions and experiences.

I wish I'd never heard of bedding pads cause I warped 2 sets of rotors doing it. Now I just brake easy in normal driving and they break in just fine. And no warped rotors.

Let the pads bed themselves through normal use. It won't take long. Also make sure you torque the lugs to 85-105 lb-ft to help prevent rotor warpage.

Great! Thanks for the advice. I'm also getting some new front tires mounted today or tomorrow. I always lock my torque wrench, a breaker bar, and my 12V compressor in the trunk whenever new tires are going on. Can't trust anyone but myself to use a torque wrench on MY car! :) Or get the psi right on the tires for that matter. eek!

I just put a new set of Hawk HPS pads on last weekend. Hawk recommends 200 miles of normal driving avoiding hard braking, then brake at will.

I got exactly 192 miles on them before I abused them on the auto-x course. They worked great. Finished 2nd in my class!

I broke-in my hawk pads with no problems, just did what it said on the directions. I am disappointed with their performance in general, I think next time i will get those performance friction pads some praise. I have a 89 as well with stock brake parts and new rotors.

I use OEM Ford pads and bed them in every time. 100 miles of normal use the 3 quick full pedal stops from 60 mph. Take it home slowly and put the car to bed. I don't see how this would warp your rotors.
