Yeah, so how does one take off the thick but short hose that connects the thermostat housing thing, to the housing where the heater core hoses are attached. Ive tried unbolting both housings to pull them out together with the hose in the middle but that doesnt work, and pulling just one out wont work with the hose attached. Im fairly sure its impossible. wink Any help appreciated.

Oh, and what should i replace it with? short wide brand-x bulk hose?

You are on the right track. Both outlets need to be removed from their respective heads, the the whole outlet assembly pulls straight out. There is a quite a bit of resistance so stay with it once all the bolts (5 total) are removed.

Make sure you have new gaskets for the water outlet-head joints and a new O-ring for the crossover tube.

Bulk hose is fine, trying to replace it without removing both outlets likely will leave you frustrated.

I didn't have so much of a problem getting that thing off as I did putting it back on. There isn't a lot of room to move it around, and it was a real PITA to get the cross over tube to seat correctly. I just used bulk hose cut-to-fit, and I have had no problems so far.

The only gasket you need is the thermostat "O"ring as long as the gasket material is removed & mating surfaces are clean any grade of silicone sealer will make a great seal.

If I remember correctly, I ordered the gaskets for the entire upper end as a set from Auto Zone, but I don't have the part number. Also, I replaced the stupid factory hose clamps with regular hose clamps and that made the install a little bit easier for me. Why do you have to take the hose off again?

That's not at all what I said or meant.

I was referring to the gaskets between the front and rear water outlets and the front and rear cylinder heads along with the O-ring on the BACK of the water outlet that connects it to the crossover tube.

I was fortunate in that Nunnally provided the needed gaskets and o-ring when I bought a used outlet from him so I didn't have to order them from a Ford dealer and wait for them to come in. As I recall, they were readily available.

Looking at the FelPro electronic catalog, it looks like # ES70426 might be the proper set. Unfortunately, I do not know exactly what that kit contains.

srry, i didnt mean to use the quote UBB for housing, just regular italics. my post kinda made me sound like an ******.

Just to clarify, there are gaskets between each of the outlets and the heads? Did you get the right/back gasket from Nunnally? I need a new thermostat outlet anyway due to a broken stud (previous owner). The O-ring goes for the connection to the crossover tube, is that what causes the resistance to comming off?
