Yeah it's like my Cadillac shocks. The aftermarkets all remove the leveling sensor, but still has a good ride.

I guess the trick is, when you buy a somewhat late model vehicle with special control features for any system, it behooves you to invest in spare parts while they still exist and aren't unGodly expensive. Even if you decide to sell vehicle before installing them, you can get a pretty $0.01 for NOS rare parts (EG Newberg's front SARC assemblies!) 
I wonder how many of the rear SARC Motorcraft assemblies are out there.

To be sure.
Before retriving a faulty SARC struts check the height sensor beside it. They are snaped in place with small plastic parts at each end and with time an end can broke giving no info to SARC brain keeping the strut in "soft mode" all the time... I also heard a story from an owner here that changed a SARC strut like 3 times before the mechanic catch that it was the height sensor which was wrong.
98SF19, if you retreive your rear SARC, I suggest you to put CC859 cargo springs if you are not lowering. They give a behavior like the SARC strut but in a more previsible way. Very hard at the begining going softer after 3 months but still strong under nervous maneuvers.
