Well, shoCRUNCH is more like it, since that's the sound it's currently making. Pulled off my boss's street after hanging out with him for a lil while following the meet and while accelerating through third (normally, not psychotically), the car lurched and the tranny made a very disgusting crunching sound. Pulled off the road, crawled underneath and noticed the transmission dripping it's precious life-blood untidily all over the parking lot. Somehow, I managed to make it from Kalamazoo down to St. Joe, and it's still shifter okay...a little stiff in a couple of gears, but nothing worse. Not sure if it was a diff pin explosion or something else. It didn't act like a diff pin (exploding upon letting the clutch out after shifting to 2nd), but I haven't been under it to investigate yet. I did noticed the clutch effort was a lot lighter after I got off the highway. Not sure if that means anything or not.

Hopefully brian will be sport enough to part with one of his transmissions and my dad'll be generous enough to help me out for the first time in 5 years. Wish me luck on getting this crate back on the road before the end of the week!

Good Luck! Man i wish i had help like that down here... The whole reason i had to sell my SHO was because there are not a lot of SHO people down here who can help out.

So do I....after all, I've blown two of em before. That's why I can't help but wonder if it really is a diff pin failure....there's no hole by the speedo cable and all that like there normally is. It looks like the fluids dripping down from the back of the tranny case, but I haven't dug my floor jack out and put the car in the air to find out where it's coming from. Something definitely blew up in there, though.

FWIW, my SHO was driving just fine with an ejected diff pin (didn't know), and it wasn't until all the fluid leaked out, that I started hearing a god aweful noise, and after some investigating (filling tranny with fluid) found out there was a hole in the case. My hole was right next to where the jackshaft goes into the tranny, and underneath where the shifter linkages connects to the tranny (sorry for the poor use of words, terminology is not my strong point!).

yeah, thanks to my current financial situation, a quaife most certainly ain't in the cards. I'm trying to figure out how to come up with the $400 it's gonna take for the R&R of the tranny, not to mention a new TOB and probable sub-frame bushings. I'm probably looking at $150 extra for parts, not including a transmission. And truth be told, I've no idea how I'm gonna make that happen at the moment.

But boy howdy, I wish I could get in on that quaife buy. I'm tired of the smell of transmission fluid.
